So fetish site on female circumcision is allowed on Reddit but any sub for gender criticism is nuked.
Just a reminder the most trans woman friendly site on the internet is full of the most vile misogynistic porn and all serious feminist discussion is instantly banned.Connect the dots.
This is absolutely disgusting and warrants multiple conversations and change, but why tf are you dragging trans women into it?
Like, Iâm not a trans woman, but I am trans, and being openly trans on Reddit outside of designated transgender spaces is not a good time. Like at all. I canât even look at my DMs.
And if you want to talk about connecting the dots, youâre not actually calling out the cisgender men who okayed this. To be frank, youâre very quick to point to, label, and connect a group, and a minority group with a history of sexual violence towards them at that, that has nothing to do with this, but you wonât point to, label, and connect the actual group, cisgender men who hold the power and control/moderate Reddit. Why? Why phrase your post in a way that paint trans women as the target to be disgusted while cis men can stand in the background behind them?
Why do the cisgender men who enable communities like these and/or engage with and consume material centering around female genital mutilation get to be ghosts in the background?
1)The mods of this sub are trans women btw.
2)A small group of transwomen are rumored to be the mods of hundreds of the most popular subs on Reddit, hence Reddit swinging down the ban hammer swiftly on any content deemed âtransphobiaâ (even content on biology that doesnât directly refer to transwomen) yet most feminist content and women focused subs being banned and misogynistic porn blogs featuring female torture proliferating. Trans feminine mods have a lot of power on Reddit and this outcome where feminist discussion is heavily policed and while violent anti-woman porn proliferates is tied to how theyâre chosen to moderate Reddit.
3)There was even mass exodus of trans masculine people (those born female) from r/transgender because all the male mods (transwomen) were banning content where trans men complained of mistreatment and silencing in trans spaces.
The r/trans subreddit is supposed to be a place for trans people to share their experiences, but one user says he was met with unnecessary b
1. The point still stands. Call out those women instead dragging the community at large into what a handful of disgusting perves are doing. Like I said, donât let the people actually doing this shit be ghosts. (And why didnât you say that to begin with?) | (Edit, just saw that it was brought to your attention 9 hours ago at the time of writing the edit, did you fact check them or did you take that user at face value?)
2. Rumors are just that, rumors. If theyâre not verifiable you canât take them at face value, and even then, what are your sources for the rumor? And if it is true, is this small group of trans women the *only* moderators of those subreddits? If not, are they top moderators, and not average moderators who were specifically hired to sort through the transphobia while other mods handle other stuff? And for stuff biology that doesnât refer to trans women, whatâs the tone? Whatâs actually being said? And does it refer to other trans people, like men and enbies?
3. This still isnât an excuse to set up a target on trans womenâs backs. A small amount of people from X group doing bigoted shit doesnât mean dragging the rest of the community into it by association. And I understand full well that trans men and trans masculine people get dog shit thrown their way. Iâm neither, but Iâm nonbinary that leans masculine without identifying with masculinity, and Iâve have had people, cisgender women, in my immediate family pull away from me emotionally and socially because I mentioned that I considered testosterone for a bit but chose not to. Literally the fact that I mildly considered it for a few months and said ânahâ had two people who had expressed nothing for support for men and mascs in the community physically recoiled and trailed off because just the idea of me medically transitioning made them really uncomfortable, and we still havenât recovered from that. And one was the same woman who got weirded out by the fact that I considered going by a new name because it was masculine, despite the fact my birth name is already a masculine name. (So I honestly shouldâve seen it coming with her.)
Overall, my point is that itâs not right to paint more targets on the backs trans women as whole by dragging them into a short post about a horrifying situation with no context on why youâre actually bringing them up. Like, it doesnât matter that this is allowed on a the âmost trans woman friendly site on the internetâ, a label that means as much as âthe best smelling pile of dog shitâ, what actually matters that itâs on the site period.
