I got a new waterbottle and made a decal of all my favourite fictional detectives:
Sherlock Holmes & Dr. John Watson > Encyclopedia Brown & Sally Kimball > Nancy Drew > Frank & Joe Hardy > Hercule Poirot & Captain Arthur Hastings
Been getting really into the Nancy Drew Games and the books. Have my version of the main girls.

I keep trying to be normal but unfortunately I have been struck with a Hardy Boys hyperfixation flare‑up and must now explain 99 years of lore to someone, anyone, immediately.
So some people seemed interested in some of my pinball brain lore stuff about the Hardy's so here's what's on my brain right now:
Frank is taller than Joe, but Joe is built like a brick shithouse. In some series, Frank is jealous that he can work out morning to night and barely bulk up at all but Joe can eat whatever he wants and roll out of bed and just play football and be stronger than him.
The newest book series (Hardy Boys Adventures) starts with Frank and Joe under threat of serious legal trouble for operating as PIs without a license or insurance lampshading some of the criticism leveled at both them and Nancy Drew. The first few books in this series are actually kinda somber where they 'win'/ catch the bad guy but their lives get noticeably worse. It is a different spin than is normally taken, even in the more gritty series where things typically end somewhat happy. More of a dose of reality, I guess.
Leslie McFarlane wrote the early books while literally freezing. In his diary he describes typing Hardy Boys manuscripts in an unheated cabin in winter, wearing gloves with the fingertips cut off, and taking breaks to cry because he hated the formula but needed the money.
Frank and Joe’s ages were changed to avoid legal issues. Originally 16 and 15, they were bumped to 18 and 17 in the 1959 revisions because publishers worried about minors driving cars, owning motorcycles, and carrying guns. Same thing happened to Nancy Drew.
There is a lost Hardy Boys book that was fully written but never published. A 1970s manuscript titled The Mystery of the Spiral Bridge (not the published one) was rejected for being “too violent” and “politically sensitive.” It has never surfaced.
The Network (the predecessor to ATAC) was created as an editorial tool to justify two teenage boys having weapons, the amount of international travel, higher stakes, and to give the boys adult backup when needed.
The first-ever Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew crossover happened on TV in The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries.
In 1978, Cookie Crisp cereal released six mini Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew crossover paint‑books as giveaways. They are adorable and I kinda want them. (Nancy Drew Sleuth: Nancy Drew & Hardy Boys Cookie Crisp Mystery Paint Books)
There have only been four years when no Hardy Boys books have been published since 1927: 1955, 1958, 1985, and 2025. I have theories about each.
In 1954 there was the rise of McCarthyism. The whole red scare meant people just didn't publish. Lines up with a gap in publishing in 1955.
In 1957-1958, there was a global pandemic and the US was hit pretty hard with between 60,000 and 70,000 dead. There was also changing political times and then in 1959 the revised versions of the Hardy Boys original books were published sanding off the Boys rougher edges (for good and ill).
In 1985 the red scare started to shift. Gorbachev was elected, Reagan started his second term. This shift saw people being more okay with thrillers and spy stuff now that it was looking less likely for the cold war to go hot. Combined with declining sales of the 'goody-two-shoes' versions of the boys, the Casefiles series was started which literally has on PAGE ONE Iola Morton getting killed in a car bombing intended for the boys.
2025 is the latest gap and I haven't heard anything for new books to be published this year (2026) and these last few years have been... *gestures at the state of the world*. It'll be curious if they come back because certain groups usurp the Hardy image to represent some bullcrap idealized young man that I don't think they actually represent in text but do in symbol. I dunno, maybe it is that and the company doesn't want to be involved with that BS... or maybe the books stopped because the ghostwriters finally realized the truth in a world this messed up, two good boys with motorbikes and a conscience wouldn't solve the mystery. They’d just end up in a ditch

Koko Kringle Cookies
So I was digging through my files looking for something and I came across a recipe that I developed when I was like ten. I used to call them Koko Kringle Cookies, based on descriptions of what they were supposed to be like in the game. Anyway, I made them this morning (with a few tweaks because hey I’ve become a slightly better baker in the intervening 20 years) and I thought others might like to try them because (in my biased opinion) they are pretty good!
The recipe is below the cut, if anyone is interested!

Some ASH doodles this time. Thanks everyone for your positive feedback last time I posted art! It gave me a push to start sharing my art more. To be honest, I’m kind of iffy on these doodles (except the Ned one, I like that one haha), but I thought I might as well share anyway.
Also! Feel free to give me suggestions on what Nancy Drew characters or scenarios to try to draw. Because I honestly don’t know what I’d like to draw next.
Being a Ned Nickerson enjoyer in the Nancy Drew fandom truly be rough. Like yeah my boy is a little bit of a stale cracker, but you neglect his important role in the story as just "the guy".
where every other mystery story has a single woman character and she fulfills the role of "the girl".
Theres Ned. It's him, the gender role breaker, "The Guy". Leave my mans alone, i need Nancy and her friends competent, and any time i see Ned not present i must suffer with the women becoming less competent from the writers and I WILL NOT HAVE IT. LET MY MAN BE A LITTLE DAMSEL IN DISTRESS, JUST A LITTLE GUY. HE LOVES HIS COMPETENT MYSTERY SOLVING GIRLFRIEND.
some of my recent Nancy Drew's drawings!!
let me be delusional in peace

An eight year old child is missing and the Hardys are on the case.
Frank Hardy: Anything?
Joe Hardy: (Shakes head) Maybe he ran away, maybe he didn't. That is all anybody seems to know.
Frank Hardy: A kid can't just disappear from the face of the earth.
Joe Hardy: No? Read any good milk cartons lately?
“Joe don’t pick fights with guys twice your size, okay? You know how allergic I am to getting my head kicked in.”
— Frank Hardy, from the 1995 Hardy Boys series
