Looking for something spooky? Fortunately horror books are my favorite. Here are five suggestions: 

Lovecraftian superheroics

Still need some Batman in your Halloween bag? Then The Doom That Came To Gotham is for you. It’s an Elseworlds book written by Mike Mignola, so if you like Hellboy, well, just replace him with Batman and that’s what this is. 

Licensed property that has no business being this good

While Afterlife with Archie is spooky and fun, it’s still a zombie story. There are plenty of those. But a Rosemary’s Baby-esque horror story that is creepy, lovely and terrifying all at once? That is a little more unexpected. The issues come out roughly once-every-time-you-forget-this-book exists, so this is one probably worth just following in trade. 

The Funniest Frankenstein that’s ever been

Dick Briefer’s Frankenstein -- once he grew tired of doing his straight take on the character -- is hilarious. Take all your favorite old sitcoms and combine them with Frankenstein tropes and you have an undead comedy of errors. 

A spooky comic that feels like a horror film

A Spanish language comic that’s been translated, Hernan Rodriguez’s Black Fire, about a group of Napoleonic soldiers trapped in a cursed town is perfect. You can feel the cold, isolation and creeping dread through the inky blacks and icy colors. And perhaps because it’s been translated it feels a bit like an Argento film. 

Trippy, mind-bending horror

It’s Grant Morrison. So you know it’s going to be confusing. But if you’ve ever read The Invisibles or Supergods, then you know what you’re in for. This is cosmic horror filtered through Aleister Crowley’s magick and Grant Morrison’s storytelling ethos. I loved it. Your milage may vary.
