I just started a new job and didn't have time to make a new comic this week, so here's an oldie but goodie. I made this back in 2006, shortly after I dropped out of art school. I originally went to art school to do comics, but dropped out after only one semester. Fun fact: You don't need to go to art school to do comics. Save your money!

My influences include, in no particular order:

David Rees (Get Your War On)

I appreciate his absurdist sense of humor. I'm not sure why clip art screaming at each other is so funny, but his work cracks me up. Some of it is more dark than funny. Fair warning.

Jaime Hernandez (Love and Rockets)

Jaime is my biggest influence, hands down. I love his artwork, I love the stories, I love the way he tells them: the well-developed characters, the non-linear narrative structure. In Love and Rockets, he's created a world so real it feels like you could live there, in part by sticking to the same characters for 30 years. If that's not love, then I don't know what is.

Alison Bechdel (Dykes to Watch Our For)

I think she was one of the first out lesbian comics. Her work is political, her characters are diverse in race and gender. She shows that the queer community is not monolithic, it includes trans folks, bisexual folks, etc. Also, she's really handsome. I did not realize how handsome she was. She looks like if Rachel Maddow and Anderson Cooper had a baby.
