HELLO AND WELCOME TO COMICEDIT'S BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION!
As Black History Month comes closer, we want to celebrate the many black characters and black creators in comic-related media. As with our other events, it is structured with very broad themes each week, so everyone has time to contribute and take part in the event. Multiple submissions for the same theme are not only accepted, they are encouraged.
WHAT DO WE ACCEPT?
Gifs, graphics, moodboards, video material, virtually anything visual is accepted!
HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?
We will track our usual tag, #comiceditblog, as well as #cebhm26!
RULES
We do not accept characters and projects which are racist or otherwise in bad faith. Any racist depictions will be blocked immediately. We also do not accept films as part of the BDS boycotts, such as Captain America: Brave New World or the Gal Gadot Wonder Woman films. We also only accept characters who are canonically Black, but media that reimagines historically white characters as Black, such as Jimmy Olsen in My Adventures With Superman, are accepted.
THEMES
Week 1, 1st to the 7th of February → Favourite Black character(s). Self explanatory!
Week 2, 8th to the 14th of February → Favourite Black-led project. This is for your favourite comic-related media starring a black character, incorporating comic runs, films, television, etc. Examples include Black Panther dir. Ryan Coogler, Static (1993), Spawn (1992), etc.
Week 3, 15th to the 21st of February → Favourite Black creator. This is for your favourite Black creator, either from the modern day or involved in the history of comics or comic-related media. This can incorporate actors, directors, costume designers, artists, writers, and more.
Week 4, 22nd to the 28th of February → Favourite obscure/underrated Black character. Similar for the first week, except geared towards the smaller characters we love. We know everyone's definition of obscure is different, so we aren't too strict. This can also include supporting cast members, such as Robbie Robertson from Spider-Man or Lucius Fox from Batman.
If you have any other questions, our inbox is open!
If you’re considering creating material, or if you’re looking forward to seeing other people’s works, please make sure to reblog this post! We look forward to seeing everyone in February.
