I'm lowkey bothered by how Gon is treated like some kind of monster in BOTH the canon and the fandom
Yeah, he's odd and morally grey, but I really don’t like how everyone keeps demonizing or othering him. It leaves a bad taste to call him “inhuman” when you literally have serial killers like Hisoka running around. There are way more characters who are actually inhuman compared to Gon (Hisoka, Illumi, Pariston, the Phantom Troupe, Sandwich, etc).
It’s not like Gon enjoys killing people or treating others like shit. He’s polite, kind, and genuinely loves his friends. Tbh he’s more human than three quarters of the cast.
His mental breakdown in CA is completely understandable. He’s grieving, he’s overwhelmed, and he has no idea how to handle it. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that. In the end, he only kills Pitou. He doesn’t even harm Komugi, even though he wanted to kill her out of pure rage (and only stopped because Killua snapped him out of it).
I sometimes wonder if this whole "Gon is inhuman" thing was meant to make him seem more complex, but to me, it still feels off. Even if the story eventually revealed he wasn’t 100% human genetically, it wouldn’t justify those kinds of descriptions (especially when tons of chimera ants are portrayed as more human than actual humans).
Gon deserved better, both from the canon and from the fandom.
THIS I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH
i will say i think it is an interesting point that he lost his nen and i think that it would be a really interesting idea to explore further how he copes/gets it back.
i do like that he lost it but i also feel he wouldn’t just snap into normalcy and be fine with it. he would have a lot of hang ups and a lot of things to work through, trauma from CA being the least of it. it would be a story of him maturing and changing and finding joy in other things as well as his journey to become stronger. i do think he should get his nen back but spending time without would accelerate his development.
i like to think he becomes ridiculously good at tracking, hunting, cooking, survival just using his own skills and upbringing. makes him slow down a bit and mature.
i hate how he’s treated in the fandom sometimes, give him a hug.
