Hey! This may be annoying and you may have a post on this but do you have any advice for try out week? It's my first time ever trying out for color guard (I'll be in highschool next year) and like just any tips to sooth my nerves. Thanks!!! ♡♡♡♡♡
Most of the time, try-outs are just to teach you the skills you need to be in guard. Most people trying out for the first time will not have experience! Show the current members and coaches that you have a good attitude and are willing to learn and take criticism, that’s what’s important! Good luck!
So won’t you take a breath and dive in deep.

anyone else watch diamante’s show this season... they single and a halfing their teammates
hey sorry to dump this all on you but i was wondering if i could get some advice. I'm a sophmore and i'm currently doing my 3rd season, but i feel like i should quit. I'm not the worst on my team but i feel like i'm only ever okay or horrendous to my techs. i practice a lot but i feel like i never get any better. there's a freshman on the team who's only done 1 season before this one and is already so much better than me. i don't want to quit but i feel so horrible about myself at practice
i know this feel.. its really hard to feel like other people are excelling above you especially when youve been putting in the work. a lot of colorguard is feeling comfortable in your body in order to fully extend through your extremities and to see the equipment as a part of your body. i was never good at dance when i performed in high school because i felt i couldnt be good and i felt very awkward. there needs to be a self-love aspect when you are performing and practicing where you think confident thoughts about loving what you do and knowing youre trying your hardest. i wish i could tell you how to just accept this but it really is a journey! make sure during practice you are watching yourself and taking time between each toss, movement, or run to think about what you may have done wrong or felt awkward about and how to fix it. I dont think you should give up if this is what you love to do.
Is there a way I can talk my band director into letting me (a guy) to let me try out. He says there needs to be three more guy:(
Depending on what state you live in it may be illegal for him to discriminate against you based on your gender! I would tell him it’s unlawful for him to discriminate, and see how he reacts.
Update on my life
ive been coaching a small winterguard of 6 kids and im so proud of them theyve placed almost every competition! i wish i knew wht i was doing with coaching so that i could have gotten them into a higher division but hey we’re happy and having fun!

I'm a freshman, I was on rifle line during fall season and am now on rifle again for winter. There's an exchange toss in our show and it's stressing me out. I have to toss a five and someone else is going to catch it. I've been picking up tosses fairly fast but I only just got a quad. I'm scared I'm going to toss wrong and hit the girl who's catching. Do you have any advice?
My advice is to focus more on the toss than the fact that someone else is catching it. Just think of it as a normal toss as if you are catching it, this will make your technique better and will make it easier for the other person!
I'm in my high schools guard but the season is over until Memorial Day. I live in the Midwest so it's winter and very cold out so I can't practice outside and my house isn't big enough to practice inside. Do you have any tips so that I won't lose all my muscle over the season break or exercises I could do?
I would recommend looking into local gyms and seeing if you can get a membership! If not, try some push ups (it's ok if you have your knees on the ground as long as your back is straight) and dips. I do these on a chair, I place my hands behind me on the edge of the seat of the chair, and extend my body in front of me so that my upper body is upright and my legs are straight. You then just dip your body down using your arms. It's ok if you can't get it right away! Just look up some arm strength exercises and try to condition (running, walking) as much as possible because endurance is a big thing people lose between seasons.
