The one thing the Foodservice Industry certainly has enough of is good-willed and consistent competition. However, unlike other industries, the maximization of resources and innovation hasn't reached it's potential. It seems that just now manufacturers have taken hold of the possibilities of technological advancement in their products. Utilization of wifi and bluetooth connections, touch screen interfaces and user customization can exponentially increase the value of any product on the market. We are experiencing, it seems, a transitional stage, the emergence of a new era in the foodservice industry where players can adapt and thrive or simply fade away. And yet it isn’t just the products that need technological advancement, we at the Collis Group, actually feel that many manufacturer’s products are on the right path in this regard. Instead, it is the way in which we handle these new products, and operate our businesses as a whole, that need to adapt. Using the multiple tools available on the Internet or on our smartphones like Dropbox, Skype and Twitter, we can improve efficiencies in any business. Being capable to share files and communicate instantaneously or anywhere is a tremendous advantage, relatively free of cost, and necessary to keep up. It’s fair to say that our industry is an aging one, and that the phrase “don’t teach an old dog new tricks” comes to play when technology is concerned. The important thing to remember is that every new tool that comes out is equipped with tutorials and workshops to help aid the transition. Wherever or whatever your business or team is doing, it’s fair to say that gaining a technological advantage is crucial to the survival and longevity of a business.
