J80, what is happening with your mast? Is this appropriate? Is this how we behave in front of the party boat stinkpots?

ANYWAY. It’s been a while since I’ve done an installment of Random Nautical Facts so let’s go ahead and fix that, yeah? If you are out in a sailboat and catastrophe strikes, say, your mast goes bye-bye and so does your motor, you can steer the boat using the rudder as a sort of paddle, which is known as sculling (aka stern sculling).
