Ben was about to bring his sword down onto Colin when he hesitated. He stared at the boy with eyes bright with hate, his sword frozen in an arc downward, aimed for the boy’s head. A pause that was so full: with not only the impulse to end it but the surprising stab of guilt. However, that only lasted a moment, or he only allowed it to. His sword lowered nonetheless.
"You don’t deserve such a quick end," is all he said, before lifting his leg and kicking Colin. He felt the crunch of a nose breaking under his boot, and then the son of Dionysus was on his back. Ben kicked his sword away stood over him.
This was it. This was the moment he would bring justice to his fallen friends. A wild sort of excitement rose in his throat, that tasted suspiciously like nausea. His grip on his sword tightened. It was impossible to miss. So why was he checking his aim again? And again. His muscles froze.
Then he snarled and stabbed the sword right into Colin’s throat. “There. We’re even.”
Colin had so much potential... Colin, who was so beautiful and talented once upon a time. Now, he resembled nothing of his past self. He was nothing but a crippled body laying on the ground. He had gained one too many lethal afflictions and, without a weapon, he couldn't do anything but take what was coming to him.
He thought of calling out to Ben, as he hung overhead like some sort of dark cloud. But then, in an instant, every pore, every fiber, they all screamed out with intensity. Colin's throat tightened and things seemed to slow down. Seconds ticked by. His eyes clouded with tears. His fingers twitched as he tried to gasp for air through the blood pouring out of his throat, but then everything went still. He stopped moving. His party was over. Colin was dead, killed at the hands of Bentley Ferarri.

Ben took a moment too long to dodge, and suddenly felt white hot pain flare up along his ribs. The blade had sliced into his flesh and rattled bones, causing him to stumble to the side. A small red circle of blood dampened his already tattered shirt, and the pain pulsed into a dull, constant throb. Cursing under his breath, Ben regained his balance and lunged at Colin.
It had been a long time since Ben had felt so angry. If he wasn’t so focused on the task at hand he might even be concerned. This kind of rage he associated with his father: ruthless, blind and unstoppable. But he was too wrapped up in revenge, in claiming his role as a son of Nemesis, he paid no mind to the similarities that currently existed between him and the man he feared more than anyone.
For a moment it looked as if Colin might evade the attack, but then the tip of Ben’s sword sunk into the boy’s abdomen. Blood spilled forward as the blade pushed its way in further, and a smile of satisfaction spread over Ben’s face. Violently, he ripped the sword out and backed away a few steps. The adrenaline made his own wound forgotten, and his eyes were aglow with triumph. But the moment of pause was short, and he went forth again with intent to kill.
Colin assumed that he had put enough room between the tip of Ben's opposing sword and any part of his body-- He was almost ready to counterattack but the horrific realization of the truth crashed down upon him. An unbearable pain rattled him to his core, nothing like he'd ever felt before.
Covered in sweat, dirt and grime, he knew he had been impaled. He knew something within him had been definitely punctured. His mouth started to fill with the potent taste of blood. Colin felt his body lose a lot of it's strength, his knees giving and dropping him to the ground, broken and beaten. He looked up at Bentley, his eyes were tired. "Is that all you got?" He grinned a sick grin.
Ben just managed to slide his sword between him and Colin’s sharp blade, the tip just inches from his face. He was struck by the force behind the attack, and for a moment he was reminded of his minimal skill in fighting. But just as doubt started to wriggle into his head, a fresh wave of rage engulfed him. With a surprising surge of strength, he shoved Colin’s sword back and, leaving no space for retaliation, he swung his own weapon in for a blow to the side.
Back when Colin chose to abandon camp, he was left to train on his own. It was far from a proper training, but fighting almost seemed to come naturally to him. It could easily be chalked up to him simply being a demigod, it being in his blood and all-- but the truth was Colin was just a violent person. He fights violently, loves violently, lives violently... and right in the center spotlight.
Colin was pushed backwards by Ben's force, but not far enough to evade the tip of his sword. An involuntary shriek of pain erupted from his lips as he looked down at his chest. His shirt had been sliced open, along with some of the flesh underneath-- or atleast that's what it felt like. He couldn't see his stinging flesh. All he saw was red.
He looked back up at Ben and gripped his weapon tighter. His face contorted with anger. He had to make a counterstrike. He lifted his blade up and swung it hard to Ben's left side, hoping to make contact.
Ben rights his grip on the sword in his hand and raised it to meet Colin’s, still hanging midair. “Quit the fucking talk, then, and fight me,” he challenges.
Fueled by his instability, Colin advanced forward with his weapon hot in his hands. "If it's a fight you want, then it's a fight you'll get." It hadn't been that long ago since he rid his blade of the residue left over from his previous skirmishes. Now, he was more than ready to fight. He lunged forward, causing the two blades to collide with force.
Ben somehow finds it in him to laugh. He shakes his head as Colin speaks; everything suddenly makes sense to him. He stares at the bleeding wound that he knows he caused and laughs again. “I don’t think you understand,” he says steadily, “Your fate is decided. I decided it. You deserve to die, so you will. It doesn’t matter what you do.”
"Shut up! Shut up," He seethed through gritted teeth and raised his weapon, pointing it towards Bentley's face. "You don't decide shit. You're pathetic. I should just put you out of your misery right here and now."

The cold grip of rage seizes Ben, piercing through all his grief to his core. It’s as if his blood has turned to acid; something shifts inside him. “Sean didn’t deserve to die in the name of your pathetic father. Rebecca,” his voice cracks on the mention of her name, “didn’t deserve to die because of this useless war.” He unsheathes his sword, pointing it at him. “But you do.”
"Opinions!" He shouts at Ben. "Those are just your opinions..." He pulls out his weapon as well, having it at the ready-- trying his best to ignore the pain in his side. "Do you even know who you're up against here? I could scramble your brains and then crack your skull open like an egg. You don't stand a chance."
Colin's bloodied hand that he'd been using to suppress the pain in his abdomen moved to the hilt of his weapon as well. "Ben, Ben, Ben... " He let out a slight laugh, dripping with bitterness. "It was never just about the killing, don't you see? Things around here needed to change. My father showed me that. He opened my eyes. Some people simply needed to be taken out so Hecate can rise to power... And maybe, my father can get the respect he deserves in the process."
A chill prickles up Ben’s spine as he recognizes the voice, and he immediately pushes himself to a standing position, whirling around to glare at Colin. His face, streaked with dirt, blood, and fallen tears, twists into a gruesome expression, all his rage drowning out his grief. His eyes flicker to the bloody wound in the boy’s stomach and his brow furrows, a seed of realization starting to plant itself. But he quickly shifts his focus back to the enemy standing before him. "You must really have a death wish."
Ben is sitting in the middle of Times Square, abandoned and littered with dust and a few fallen demigods from battle. The monsters have disappeared for now, but he’s barely taken notice. His hands cover his face as he cries, but footsteps behind him force him to lift his head. “Who’s here?”
Colin trudged through an abandoned Times Square. One hand holding his weapon and the other clutching his abdomen and seething through his bloodied teeth. Ever since the failed negotiation meeting with the gods, there was a sharp pain in his side that plagued him and it was getting deeper and more unbearable with the hour. He was managing though. He was always somehow managing his pain, locking it away, masking it, ignoring it. He was the king of suffering. That was, until he came to a stop a couple of feet away from Bentley. "Looks like they missed one."
Even in the moon-lit darkness that Colin Kennedy found himself rushing through that unimaginable night, everything and everyone had a shadow. His shadow seemed to be the darkest though, thick and teeming with malice. The post midnight air was with laced with humidity that forced the fabric of Colin’s shirt to stick to the skin of his back.
It had been several months now that Colin had been abstained from anything alcoholic and, one might think that to be good— but, that clearly wasn’t the case for Sean Flannery.
After declaring an alcohol free life, Colin began slipping quicker and more noticeably than ever before. He had dark circles that hugged the space between his eyes and cheeks. He had stopped trying to conceal them weeks ago, giving in. There was no point in cleaning his act up. He was spiraling the drain and he could feel himself losing grip with reality.
Finding a safe spot in the woods to catch his breath, he caught a flash of red out of his peripheral vision. He looked down at his hands and choked back a gasp at the sight of another man’s blood covering them. He dropped the machete, his signature weapon, and began to heave until his throat burned and his eyes stung; but he retched up nothing.
Colin’s seemingly charming disposition that somehow weaseled him out of every sticky situation prior to this was useless now. He had taken a life— Sean’s life. And for what? The lack of respect he had shown him during their interactions? No, there had to be something more. There had to be something more deeply-seeded inside Colin Kennedy’s psyche that forced him to make the switch from demigod to k i l l e r.
His mind lingered on the blood that now stained more than just his hands. His name would be forever blackened by his homicidal actions. He couldn’t get the image of his blade piercing Sean’s gut out of his mind’s eye and, the more it stayed there, the more Colin found himself coming to terms with himself.
Colin reached down and picked up his weapon. He mentally ridiculed himself for not thinking of crushing the young man’s skull while he was at it, but revels in the fact that he gets to clean the blood off his tool of destruction when he returns to his headquarters.
Colin couldn’t stay here for much longer, the other campers would find Sean’s body in the hours to come and he had to make sure he was far away by then. He took in one last breath of air an turned on his heels, disappearing into the murky shadows like the predator he had become. And as he took his leave, leaving nothing but heartbreak and destruction in his path, only one thing was certain: this wasn’t the last Camp Half Blood would see of Colin Kennedy.

Colin Kennedy sat in the Headquaters for the defiant demigod children that decided to take a stand against what things were. With grace and glory, he has constructed about 17 folded paper cranes of all sorts of colours. He's working on his 18th when he catches someone approaching out of the corner of his eye. "--Be cafeul."
After the flames from Nemesis's visit are nothing but smoldering embers, Colin sneaks his way through camp under the cover of darkness. He seeks out his cabin, where he finds his sister: Elise. To read Colin and Elise’s conversation, click the read-more.
Colin, with a black hooded sweatshirt pulled up over his head, sneaks his way on over to his cabin's front door. He reaches out, turns the handle and slips inside, closing the door behind him. "Elise?" He asks, quietly.
Elise sits up straighter when the door opens and then jumps off her bed, running over to Colin. As she throws her arms around him, she breathes out a sigh of relief. "Colin, I thought-- I thought you were gone!"
Colin 's surprised when Elise's arms are wrapped around him, but he hugs her back-- not as tightly as her though. "Eli--" He says, pulling out of the hug. "Were you at the bonfire?"
Elise nods and looks up at him, or what she can see in the darkened cabin. "I just-- I left when she got there. Did you see her? She looked like..." She frowns and shakes her head.
Colin "I saw her." He nods. And then he's quiet, except for a sigh that escapes his lips and the sound of his fingers running through his hair nervously.
Colin "We need to talk." He says sternly, looking back up at her.
Elise pauses, just staring at him nervously before she nods. "Okay," she says uncertainly. She turns and starts walking over to her bed.
Colin follows her but remains standing. He pulls off his hood. "Do you know why Nemesis was here?" He asks
Elise swallows. "She, um... She wants us to be on their side. With Dad and them." She frowns.
Colin "How do you feel about that?"
Elise "I--" She shrugs. "I don't know."
Colin "Does it scare you?"
Elise nods. "Fuck yeah it scares me. Does it scare you?"
Colin shakes his head. "No. Not anymore."
Elise "Oh." She pauses before speaking, her voice quiet. "Are you thinking about... Joining them?"
Colin "That's what I wanted to talk to you about..." He starts but he doesn't know how to continue. "I-- I've already joined them." He confesses.
Elise stares at him, completely shocked. "You--" Her eyes knit together in confusion as she thinks of what to say. "Why?"
Colin "Why wouldn't I join them, Eli?" He takes a step forward. "My sister's in a mental institution because of me. My mom's basically cut me out of her life. Our Dad needs us and I can't say no. I just can't."
Elise frowns deeply and then nods. "Oh." This is all she can say.
Colin waits for a moment, wondering slightly if she was to continue. But, when she doesn't, he speaks up. "Will you join me?"
Elise starts chewing on her nail, silent for a moment. "I don't know."
Colin "You don't know?" He asks, not expecting that answer. "Dad's offering out an open hand, and you don't know? This is the chance we've been waiting for."
Elise "I don't know," she says again, a little frustrated now. "There are...there are people here, I can't just leave them."
Colin "Grey's left, Eli. Felix too. Brayan and Ariana are on this side too. They left and there are a lot more that are planning to come over. Come be on the winning side."
Elise frowns. "I--" She thinks for a moment. "But-- Colin, I can't just leave Mikey."
Colin "Didn't he leave you?"
Elise shakes her head. "No, no, he didn't leave." She forces a chuckle. "He just-- He wouldn't leave me."
Colin "All right," He holds up his hands. He doesn't want to push Elise too far. "Do you need time to think?" He asks.
Elise takes a deep breath and nods.
Colin watches her for a moment. "You'll be all right. We both will be all right."
Colin turns to head for the door. He opens it and looks back at her. "I love you, Elise. I know you'll make the right decision. You know how to get a hold of me."
Colin slips out and into the night.
Elise watches the door and stands up from the bed. Her breathing grows heavier and she looks around for her phone, finding it under her blanket. She dials his number and waits for him to pick up.
Colin is still nearby the cabin area when he answers his phone. "Yeah?"
Elise "Are you leaving me?" She asks this even though she just watched him walk out the door.
Colin "I would never leave you."
Colin shakes his head even though she can't see.
Elise frowns and tries her best not to cry. She looks around the cabin and notices how empty it is. "I-- I'm going to come with you."
Colin smiles. "I knew you'd make the right decision," He turns and begins walking back to the cabin. "I'm coming back for you."
Elise smiles. "Okay, I'll-- I'll get some things and-- Okay." She starts throwing clothes and stuff she needs on her bed, not hanging up the phone.
Colin "I'll see you in a moment. I'm almost to you," Soon, he arrives at the cabin and lets himself in. He hangs up the phone.
Elise turns when he arrives and rushes over to hug him.
Colin hugs her back tightly.
Colin "Dad'll be proud."
Elise looks up at him. "Really? You think so?"
Colin nods. "I know so. You'll see him soon."
Colin looks around the cabin. "Do you need help?"
Elise smiles and pulls away, shaking her head. "I got it." She turns to pack everything into a backpack. She puts her phone in her pocket and gathers her red blanket in her arms. "I'm ready," she says, turning towards him.
Colin nods. "Let's go, then." He gives her a reassuring smile and takes his leave.
Elise smiles, although it's half hearted, and follows him out, glancing back at the cabin before she closes the door.
After a rather surprising visit from Nemesis, it has become common camp knowledge that Colin and Felix have been on the opposing side for some time now. Upon recruiting a few individual campers to the "dark side", Colin finds his way back into camp and to the Demeter cabin; under the cover of darkness. To read Danny and Colin's fight, click the read-more.
Danny is sobbing quietly into his pillow.
Colin, with a black hooded sweatshirt pulled up over his head, sneaks his way on over to the Demeter cabin's front door. He reaches out, turns the handle and slips inside, closing the door behind him. He makes his way to the back, where the beds are, and is presented with a scene that makes his heart ache. "--Danny?"
Danny sits up at the sound of a familiar voice. "Colin?" Danny doesn't hesitate-- he stands up with his pillow, walks over to Colin, and tries to pummel him with it.
At first, Colin lets Danny hit him with the pillow. "Danny, Danny--" He attempts to grab Danny's wrist that's holding the pillow. "Danny, stop. I'm sorry. Let me explain."
Danny drops the pillow when Colin grabs his wrist. He tries to pull his arm free. "How could you possibly explain?"
Colin "Because I owe you an explanation, all right?" He says this a little too harshly and, his grip on Danny's wrist is probably a little too harsh as well. But, when he realizes that he's still got a grip, he lets go.
Danny buries his face in his hands, shaking his head. He turns away from Colin and sits back down on his bed, facing away from Colin. After a moment, he turns his head back to him, still avoiding eye contact. "Fine."
Colin watches Danny's back quietly, not moving, until he's presented with Danny's face once again. And, when he is, Colin quickly makes his way over to him and kneels before him. He reaches for Danny's hands to hold them. "I'm so sorry. This is not how I wanted this to play out." He's avoiding eye contact as well.
Danny throws his hands up, afraid to let Colin touch him. His voice is breaking, almost pleading to understand. "How else could it have possibly played out?"
Colin should have guessed Danny would react in this way. He stands up and begins pacing. He runs his fingers through his hair. "I should have told you about what I was doing earlier. I should have let you in from day one."
Danny "Day one?" Danny looks up at Colin. "How long have you been doing this?"
Colin stops pacing and looks at Danny. "What is it that you think I'm doing, Danny?"
Danny stands to be at Colin's level. "Siding with Nemesis! Betraying camp! What else?"
Colin "I'm not betraying camp. I'm choosing family. My dad needs me."
Danny "Family? What about Eli? What about everybody here at camp who needs you?"
Colin "Nobody needs me here," He took the steps needed to be right in front of Danny. Colin raised his hands and goes to place them on the sides of Danny's face. "You're all I need."
Danny tries his hardest not to cry as tears start welling up in his eyes. He looks away, shaking his head, and tries to push Colin's hands away.
Colin lets Danny push his hands away. His eyes begin to water but he tries his hardest to bite them back. "There's a war coming..." Colin Kennedy does not cry. Not anymore. He's stronger than that. "You're going to have to choose a side."
Danny looks at the far wall, seeing Colin in his peripheral vision. "I'm not leaving camp."
Colin 's quiet for a moment. "This is something I need to do, Danny. I can't change my mind about this."
Danny swallows hard. "Neither can I."
Colin clenches his fists until he feels his nails press into the skin of his palm. He keeps them like this even though it hurts. "What does this mean for us?"
Danny tries to maintain his breathing, but he can feel himself falling into hysterics. As a few tears escape his eyes, Danny turns to look at Colin and simply shakes his head.
Colin blinks quickly a few times to rid himself of the urge to cry, but it still lingers. In fact, he's not as strong as he once previously though because a traitor tear falls down his cheek. He wipes it away immediately. "You'll always be the one I think about, Danny. No matter what."
Danny shakes his head again as he starts to cry. He clasps his hands over his ears and sits back onto the bed, keeping his gaze down, away from Colin.
Colin can't do this anymore. He can't see Danny in this state. He wipes under his eyes. "I'm sorry." He says quickly and heads for the exit.
Danny doesn't turn around and waits for Colin to leave.
[Elise walks through camp, flask in hand. She tilts her head back for a drink and then trips, falling to the ground. She then stands up and keeps walking, acting as if it never happened.]
After exiting their cabin, Colin's high-top sneakers trekked along the grass quickly to catch up with Elise; who already had a good head-start. Colin had been on the phone with a doctor's office back in California and it had ran into the time he had put aside to hang out with Elise. He spoke as he found a spot at her side. "--Hey, sorry that took so long. I guess they're switching Valerie into a new treatment facility because she's not showing signs of improvement," He rubbed the back of his neck and continued on. "They think it'll be good for her though."

"The border is left unguarded at night. I don’t sleep much as it is and I figure I might as well—" He paused when Colin spoke again. "Not in the least. If your fun involves breaking rules, then I don’t think it really counts as fun."
Colin stuck the single cigarette between his lips and placed the rest of his pack back into his pocket. He lights the tip and takes a few puffs to get it started.
"I think that’s a personal opinion." He says, smoke exhaling from his mouth and nose as he spoke. "And a shitty one at that."
