Two of my all time favourite photographers are Brandon Woelfel & Iamwishphotography (unsure of real name) . I love the creativeness in Brandons photos the way he uses fairy lights/neons and the lights from cars etc to light up his images. The prisms add a very cool effect to the photos well still keeping the models as a main focus. I would love to try using prisms and fairy lights in my own photography . I get a feeling of life from his photos they make me so happy to look at. I came across both these photographers on instagram and have follwed them ever since they truely inspire me to be the best photographer i can. The use of the soft tones really captures my attention in iamwishes images for example the image above (image 2) is such a sweet pic of a mother and her daughters cuddled in close together, this is such a loving and special feeling for a parent and the soft tones really compliment that. The use of a very shallow depth of field takes away the background and tells you the people are the main focus the back ground isnt as important. I to like to use a shallow depth of field when capturing people.
Today i had my first attempt at Double Exposure in photoshop, i found this technique very enjoyable and would love to use it more during my photography journey.
Rear curtain sync - i found this technique abit difficult but i really enjoyed it. This image was shot using a shutterspeed of 1.0 an aperture of f3.5 & a ISO of 100. I also had my tripod set up for this shot.
Image retouching/layer masks Activity- i chose this image to retouch as i just adore this shot of my son Tyrese. Following along to the video we were showen(using only what i needed for my image) i firstly started with the spot healing tool to remove a scratch from below his eye and tidy up a few slight marks on his left cheek, i then made a duplicate layer and with this i used a hard curves adjustment to lighten his face. I then used the levels & hue/saturation adjustment to brighten the whites of his eyes. I also used the smart sharpen filter to sharpen his eyes slightly to make them stand out a little more. With just using a few of the adjustments from the video it has already really improved this image and im happy with how it looks. I find the whole layer masks confusing but i think im slowly starting to get the hang of it the more i play around with it. This image was shot at an aperture of f1.8 with a shutterspeed of 1/125 & an ISO 400.

Here is my focal length and text activity. These three images were taken at 3 different focal lengths, 18mm, 34mm & 50mm. I stood close to the car for the first image using an 18mm focal length then i took a step back for the 35mm shot so i could fit the back of the car into my viewfinder and then i took another step back again for the 50mm shot to get them all in roughly in the same spot for each attempt at these 3 focal lengths. I quite like how the 18mm focal length shows the car as the main focus but still gets all the surroundings in the shot which with the 50mm it limits the amount of background in the photo which i prefer for my portrait shots.
Well searching the web for documentary photographers i came across some truely amazing work, but these two photos i have chosen to post really caught my eye.
First image is taken by Steve Mccurry https://www.instagram.com/p/BKoINSEjf_J/ & 2nd image is taken by Don Mccullin.
These images are not just another picture on the web, they tell a story filled with so much raw emotions. They had me feeling all kinds of feels. The emotion on these peoples faces is so real & strong you cannot fake those types of emotions. The risk these two photographers take to capture such story telling images is not only brave but truely inspiring, they risk their lives to show/speak the truths going on around the world.
The composition of these images work really well and i think the black and white works great with the 2nd image it really pulls you in and makes you want to know more. I would like to explore the use of black and white in my own photography, and oneday i too hope to inspire others with my work
To practice with adjustment layers i chose this shot of my sons. I just adore this capture but it was looking a lil dull so i used the vibrance adjustment layer and set the saturation to 18 and the vibrance to 13 adding a touch of brightness to this image.
I captured this picture of my beautiful boy at pollard park, Marlborough on a beautiful sunny day. I chose to post this image because it portrays the type of photography i want to specialize in. I really enjoy capturing children, there eyes tell a story & theres nothing more real & beautiful than an innocent child.
I love the effect that a shallow depth of field has on an image, it really makes the main focus point stand out in this case my son deaken. I particularly love how even the flower in front of the seat my son is on is out of focus as well as the back ground.
I shot this image on my Nikon D5600 in A mode using an aperture of f1.8 and a shutterspeed of 1/250.
Motion blur photography - The other day i had my first attempt at a motion blur image. I found this technique very difficult but i really enjoyed experimenting with the different shutterspeeds. I love how this image portrays the daredevilness of my son hitting the bikeramps at high speed. Notes- A tripod would have made this shot alot easier but i did not have one so i used a concrete wall to lean my arm on to help keep my camera super steady well i tracked deaken on his bike. I shot this image from my nikon d5600 with the shutterspeed set to 1/30 & an aperture of f29.0, I also allowed my camera to focus before taking this picture 📷 Next time i would love to try shooting something moving at an even faster speed .
