ra ra rasputin is objectively the funniest song ever written it's like "rasputin was an advisor to the romanovs and honestly he was a bit of a power-hungry conman (oof)... but you're not here for a history lesson! you want to know how much he fucked, don't you? well i'll tell you: he fucked. he fucked often and severely."
and it's a banger
violet bridgerton can scheme to get all her children out of the house, send the entire house staff on leave to get laid, show up on literal lingerie, look the man straight in the eye and say “im the tea you're having” and command him to get undressed...but somehow fumble when it comes to explaining sex to her daughters
suddenly remembered how much i love annabeth chase. loml.

Can I just say I absolutely loved the bit where they showed Benedict playing with his brothers, throwing shaving cream around, and then immediately cut to the scene where Sophie was walking past that room when her friend was cleaning up the mess the boys made. Class difference masterfully shown without a single word being used. Lovely stuff.
One thing I really like is the contrast between the Featheringtons and Bridgertons, more specifically how Violet and Portia are the two sides of the same coin. In that time, women had little to no agency of their own. Their fate was entirely dependent on the men in their life and the contrast between the two families truly showed that.
Violet pushed her children, even daughters, to look for love because the men in her life have always been good. Her father loved her, so did her husband. She raised her sons to be respectful, good men, she knew even if they were rakes or hadn't settled down. Once they do, they'll be faithful and dutiful husbands. She never had to worry about money or security, it was always there. She has four sons, she doesn't havev to worry about losing Bridgerton title or the house anytime soon. Hence why, she wanted her children to marry for love. Love matches for women were a luxury back then, one which Violet could only afford because of the security and the presence of right men.
On the contrast, Portia had a rather pessimistic view on marriage. She had first hand experience on how fickle men can be. Her husband gambled away all their money, lied to her, died leaving them penniless. The lack of the male heir added to more distress because once her husband died, the house and the title will be passed onto the closest male relative rather than her daughters, unless they're married with sons. Her desperation and harshness to marry them off came from the care of their own security. She lied and took the stolen money of Jack, as a means to survive. Even if she was not a perfect mother, her harsh approach was a survival mode. Because she knows if you're at the hands of the wrong man, your entire will be horror story. She knows the agency and happiness of a woman is entirely tied to the men in her life.
And I want to add, this was thoroughly reflected among the respective daughters of both families. Daphne, Francesca, and Hyacinth were excited for marriage and all of them wanted to marry for love is because that's what they've seen growing up. Violet and Edmund were very much in love, their brothers always took care of them. Eloise can decide to be a spinster because she she knows her brother, the Viscount and her sisters, the Duchess and the Countness will never let her starve. Yet Portia's eldest two were satisfied with respectful, good husbands who liked them, even if they were untitled, not extremely wealthy or had a grand love story. Penelope wrote columns, earned good money, under the name Lady Whistledown which gave her agency and power of her own without any man. She refused to back down even when it caught the attention of the Queen. Not something most daughters of nobility would dare think of doing.
I don't know what I love more: Sophie having the cheek the nerve the gall the audacity and the gumption to basically tell Benedict "You make me too horny, you must leave your own house" OR Benedict responding with "You're absolutely right and I am so sorry, I'll go pack my shit"

A lot of people in twitter and instagram are mad about Benedict suggesting “be my mistress” to Sophie and I get it? If it was modern times, why that is insulting.
But here's my unpopular opinion, I think Benedict's suggestion came from no ill intentions. But the opposite, firstly, this takes place in the 1800s regency England. If Benedict married Sophie, a maid, it will be a huge scandal and the Bridgertons will shunned by the entire Ton, which will ruin the entire family's reputation, and he has two unmarried sisters who will not get any marriage prospects and, for women of nobility, their main goal was to secure a good match. They were raised for that one purpose. Benedict, as an older brother, won't do anything which will put his sisters' future and family's reputation at risk.
Secondly, Benedict has been consistently shown to be carefree and defying social norms. His sexuality, his love for art, his strong opposition at marriage and settling down. Why would he suddenly change his mind impulsively for Sophie? It was the best decision for both of them, from his point of view. He can live the life he wants, be with the woman he loves, while still rejecting the social norms and being a part of the society.
Now, we've been seeing the entire season from Sophie's point of view. How it terribly backfired for her own mother when her father eventually remarried. How her mother had little to no power in this situation. We get it, why she would take offence at Benedict's offer, why she cannot securely trust his word because honestly why would she? Women had no power back then, especially women of lower class. If something goes wrong, Benedict leaves her, there's no future for her. Her entire life and security will be dependant on a man. The huge class difference creates a huge power imbalance, she has everything to lose, he has nothing to lose.
But Benedict isn't aware of her past, he likely saw it as the best proposition he could offer where they could be together without tarnishing his family name. His privilege as a noble man did not let him see the power imbalance, the class difference, and the great disadvantage it would be for Sophie, who will lose everything, including her another chance at life if things go wrong but I do believe Benedict wasn't speaking from a position where he saw her beneath him but rather from his limited options, thanks to societal norms.
oh wow im so dead here
just saw someone saying that it’s proof that taylor swift is gay because one time she went to a halloween party and her friend blake lively was dressed up as dorothy from the wizard of oz. thus making her a “friend of dorothy”. I’m losing my mind at the idea of taylor swift going up to blake lively and being like “I NEED you to dress up as dorothy from the wizard of oz for this Halloween party so that when the pictures get posted online the tiny subset of my fans on the internet who think I’m secretly gay will recognize that your halloween costume was specifically chosen to signal to them that I am secretly gay”. and then blake lively presumably agreed to this plan. she was like yeah sounds reasonable and a good way to choose my halloween costume. like that’s hilarious
maomao is my favorite "not like other girls" style protagonist bc for one shes a girls girl through and through. to the bone. and two she's just a weird little freak. absolute lunatic. they have the whole "omg she's actually beautiful and everyone falls for her when she's all made up" trope but the punchline is that she does not fucking want to look like that. she actively puts dirt on her face every day bc she does not want to be perceived as attractive (mostly out of fear of being used for sex work though at the same time she has the utmost respect for women who do sex work like she grew up in a brothel those are her sisters). she's Sherlock level smart and solves every mystery so fast but goes "well thats none of my business. anyway back to testing poisons on myself" she has the 2nd most powerful guy in the nation head over heels in love with her and is like "man this guy is weird around me what's his deal. I guess he's fine though because he gives me rare medicines and has no dick" fucking ICON i love her. also she once slapped someone so hard they fell on the floor. 10/10

I think the hot new trends for this summer should be reading comprehension and critical thinking skills
a quick psa to anyone recently getting into greek mythology and is a victim of tumblr and/or tiktok misconceptions:
-there is no shame in being introduced to mytholgy from something like percy jackson, epic the musical or anything like that, but keep in mind that actual myths are going to be VERY different from modern retellings
-the myth of medusa you probably know (her being a victim of poseidon and being cursed by athena) isn't 100% accurate to GREEK mythology (look up ovid)
-there is no version of persephone's abduction in which persephone willingly stays with hades, that's a tumblr invention (look up homeric hymn to demeter)
-as much as i would like it, no, cerberus' name does not mean "spot" (probably a misunderstanding from this wikipedia article)
-zeus isn't the only god who does terrible things to women, your fav male god probably has done the same
-on that note, your fav greek hero has probably done some heinous shit as well
-gods are more complicated than simply being "god of [insert thing]", many titles overlap between gods and some may even change depending on where they were worshipped
-also, apollo and artemis being the gods of the sun and the moon isn't 100% accurate, their main aspects as deities originally were music and the hunt
-titans and gods aren't two wholly different concepts, titan is just the word used to decribe the generation of gods before the olympians
-hector isn't the villain some people make him out to be
-hephaestus WAS married to aphrodite. they divorced. yes, divorce was a thing in ancient greece. hephaestus' wife is aglaia
-ancient greek society didn't have the same concepts of sexuality that we have now, it's incorrect to describe virgin goddesses like artemis and athena as lesbians, BUT it's also not wholly accurate to describe them as aromantic/asexual, it's more complex than that
-you can never fully understand certain myths if you don't understand the societal context in which they were told
-myths have lots and lots of retellings, there isn't one singular "canon", but we can try to distinguish between older and newer versions and bewteen greek and roman versions
-most of what you know about sparta is probably incorrect
-reading/waching retellings is not a substitute to reading the original myths, read the iliad! read the odyssey! i know they may seem intimidating, but they're much more entertaining than you may think
greek mythology is so complex and interesting, don't go into it with preconcieved notions! try to be open to learn!
It's also worth nothing that the Greek World was not a monolith, it was a collection of city-states, each with their own societies and variations on Hellenic culture; Gods and Goddesses had radically different personalities and portfolios from island to island, and even between different cults on the same island. The modern accepted interpretations we see today are synthesized from later writers like Ovid, who were attempting to codify a specific Greek pantheon and culture from the disparate societies around the Aegean.
@comicaurora
yep, just like everything else, greek mythology gets more complicated and less clear-cut the further down you go, but it is extremely worth the dive
