“… for decades its appeal does not know that fade.” - 16 Bit Models (and Google Translate)
Just the other day in Japan was an exhibition, organized by 16 Bit Models. The cause for celebration, as one might have guessed by now, was games released before the year for 2000. And those who did the celebrating were model makers, which again should be no surprise.
It was a fairly modest sized exhibit, but there was still plenty to gawk at, especially if the 16-bit era is your fave period (like mine). From what I could gather on Twitter (which is where all these pics are from), the one that got the most oohs and ahhs was a magnificent recreation of the opening cinematic the Mega/Sega CD classic shmup Silpheed.
Apparently the model maker took a pre-existing Silpheed model, one that is commercially available, but went super crazy with the detailing, plus created the entire docking station (along with all the tiny little people) from scratch!
Here are a few other favorites. Sticking with shmups, you also had one of the Arrowheads from R-Type…
Holy crap, that level of detail…
Assorted bosses from Darius…
All the various Gauntlet starfighters from Thunder Force V…
As well as a number of variants based upon just the one ship in Xevious, the Solvalou…
Who loves Opa Opa? Everyone of course!
