“Insightful, but I already knew that. I’m looking for a little more, here.”

“Like what---or maybe it’s me who needs extra directions?”

“How do you lock a freezer? You just pull the handle and it opens. I really hope it is or else you’re going under the bus with me.”

“Buy a lock that has a key. They sell pretty big ones as weird as that sounds. You’d be surprised what you can find online.”

“And don’t forget - always use full milk. No matter the recipe. None of that skimmed or 1% bullshit. Especially in your cream fillings - like this lovely example I have right here.” There was always, always a cake on offer when Ava was doing her somewhat shadier business. Today’s example was a traditional Victoria Sponge cake.

“I never was going to bend the rules of true ingredients. Especially not coming from someone who seems like they know their stuff. Don’t worry.”

“The only hope I have is that one day you and your family will drop fuckin’ dead. Like I said, the world doesn’t give me what I want.”

“I’m curious---that’s a lot of hate for a family you don’t know much of. And honestly it only hurts you. But I guess that’s your own burden.”

               “Seems like you’re good at lumping everyone into the same boat. —Very bias, though.. ain’t ever had a bad run in with either.”

“That’s a plus then. Not many people can say that or so I’ve heard--- a lot.’

Ava let out a sigh, disappointed he didn’t want anything on the poison front, but then like a flick of a switch she perked up again, “Flour and butter ratio–” She pulled the box off of the table, “–and chilling the cookie dough for a hour before baking.” 

“Dully noted. I’m sure my stomach will be forever thankful.”

                   “Wouldn’t surprise me— two thousand seventeen and all. Is that actually a thing? Weird.”

“Yes. Though I think the police force are more vindictive but I guess that could sound a lot like bias on my part?”

“I don’t know, I should be focusing on getting the stains off my shirt, not how he loaded those balloons.”

“Fair enough. But after you might wanna think of a counter attack---unless you’re the type who just wants to forget this all ever happened?”

“The world never gives me what I hope for, I didn’t expect that to change now.”

“Well, there’s always next time. Hope---it might not be what you were looking for but there’s some partially there.”

              “Think less paranoid and more along the lines of trying to stop the whining before it happens. —You sure? Cops are good at bein’ undercover these days.”

“Fair enough. I might actually get offended---I’m a firefighter. Definitely not a cop. There is that rivalry after all.”

“Yeah, I’d say that’s bad.”

“I’d like to know how they put that into a balloon. I mean that’s real effort there----.”
