He scratched at the scruff on his face, taking in the seen of Ava with a glass a milk. She looked like an innocent little kid sitting on his counter. It was different from the skilled and dangerous⌠hell scary even, hunter he had known in the past. He did like it though, he liked the fact that she didnât scare the living shit out of him now. âDamn, all this time and I never saw you around. Thatâs crazy. I really do need to get out of the house more.â His smile fell and he walked in to lean against a counter across from her, âAfter everything that happened, with the witch and all, I decided to retire, I guess. I just⌠I went so long, going so hard after her. I needed a break. I do some hunting every now and again now, but its more to help out anyone who needs it, unless of course its a witch. I guess you can call me hired help when it comes to hunting, Iâm retired unless you call my name. You staying out of trouble or are you still neck deep in it like you used to be?â
The trouble with Ava these days was that if you did know her before her notable shift in demeanour that it could be even more unsettling - because how exactly does one go from stone cold killer to bubbly sweetness who  likes to bake cakes? She was a cautionary tale if there ever was one, âMmmhm. Pretty nuts, I wouldâve at least expected you to swing by the coffee shop. Unless you have and Iâve just not been there at the time -- thatâs where I work by the way. Hint hint.â Pay her a visit, Brax, sheâll make it worth your while. She sipped on her milk and shrugged, âHunters never retire.â That sounded like the old Ava, âBut they do take breaks from time to time I suppose.â At his las question, she gave him a cat like grin, âIâm always in trouble Brax, but I make sure in this town that no one knows Iâm usually the cause of their problems. Just the supplier.â
