While this looks like a scene from the Tale of the Three Brothers from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the story is much older than J.K. Rowling’s recent retelling. 

The Three Living and the Three Dead is a common scene in northern European manuscripts dating back to the 13th century. 

Three noblemen lose their way during a hunt and discover three decaying, yet animated corpses. Sometimes considered the noblemen’s ancestors, the corpses admonish the men to lead more pious lives.

This is one of the tamer examples, and is not how you “compliment” guys unless you would like to be dating them.
