wdym i see this IG reel that said roses and champagne is not "toxic romance," but is actually a "green fluffy one"!?!!??
seriously. in the year of our lord and savior 2026???
can we all just accept the glaring, obvious fact that roses & champagne is toxic as it is, and it is the toxicity that makes the story?
that caesar is a true mafia thug—ruthless, cruel, violent, possessive, etc? that even leewon isn't a green flag at all—too reckless, impulsive, and is also a freak?
that their relationship, while it started out as something kinda cute, is not at all healthy and is more or less a result of the violence that came in between, courtesy of caesar?
"but rizzle, leewon did say it himself that he is in love with caesar!" i know that. he's said it several times in the extras—twice in roses & kiss, another in roses & hornets (roses & romanticist).
but my point still stands: that had leewon not been coerced with repeated violence and threats from caesar, he wouldn't have stayed in russia any longer. that if he had a choice in any of this (his relationship w/ caesar, and then later on his relationship w/ his father), he would've left and never came back.
and it is why i say that it is the toxicity that makes the story—caesar is consistent to his true nature to the end despite his growing affections for leewon. leewon, on the other hand, despite the love* he has for caesar, still fights back and keeps his guard up, or else he'll crumble.
-
i said this before, and i'll say this again: roses & champagne is not, and will not be everyone's cup of tea. a lot of fans, me included, have consistently warned new readers of the red flags and trigger warnings especially when the manhwa was still ongoing.
please do not bait new readers with the promise of a good time and lack of toxicity. leewon's not gonna be proud of you for that one.
a bit of more rant and spoilers below.
btw to that one who posted that IG reel, please stop posting disinformation on social media.
caesar and leewon are not married yet in the novel, they're still very much engaged by the time the third volume ended.
because!
leewon did ask caesar to marry him in roses and hornets (roses & romanticist), after the previous events made him realize something.
leewon’s even yet to give caesar that fountain pen, for the love of god.
maybe in one of my fics leewon did that but hey that's not even canon lolololol—
If you're writing anything involving cons, scams, heists, or morally questionable characters who are very good at lying, here are some free resources I've been using for research. Saving you the "why is this in my search history" anxiety.
1. The FBI's Famous Cases & Criminals archive (fbi.gov/history/famous-cases) has detailed breakdowns of real fraud cases, Ponzi schemes, and confidence operations. The language they use is clinical and precise, which is perfect for getting the procedural details right.
2. The FTC Consumer Sentinel Network publishes annual reports on the most common fraud tactics in the US. Great for understanding how modern scams actually work and what makes people fall for them.
3. The Smithsonian's American Art Museum has a free digital collection of forgery case studies. If your character forges documents or art, this is gold.
4. Court Listener (courtlistener.com) is a free legal database where you can read actual court transcripts from fraud trials. Want to know how a real con artist talks under oath? This is where you find out.
5. The Internet Archive's collection of old newspaper crime sections. Search for "confidence man" or "swindle" in papers from the 1920s through 1960s and you'll find incredible real stories that would feel too dramatic for fiction.
Bonus: The Psychology of Fraud section on the Association for Psychological Science website has accessible articles about why people trust, how deception works cognitively, and what makes someone a convincing liar. Essential reading if you want your con artist characters to feel psychologically real.
Reblog to save for later. Your WIP will thank you.
This man ran across the entire city in the middle of a rainstorm at night just to ask Azuma if he'd like to take a weekend trip. Gay people will do anything except send a text.

been thinking of writing fics for smokey blue, but maybe not so kuji/azuma-centric. other than the fact that both the show and the manga series share so much about them, i really don’t feel the urge to lol.
(usually i feel this when i feel like the story’s more than enough to know them, and i personally don’t feel like adding more when everything’s perfect as is, etc)
but more of kuji and/or azuma’s relationships with other people, like kuji and azuma’s nephew tamaki. azuma and kuji’s nii-san, maybe. or azuma and sawada-san. or, hmm, kuji-san and hara-san? something like that.
the story, after all, doesn’t just center around kuji and azuma’s relationship—it’s how they navigate the world at their age, as well as coming to terms with their past experiences and the future they’re carving, and the people they meet.
i need to go back to my r&c & turning wips but i guess brain finds them too heavy to tackle lmao welp
life in smokey blue’s ep 9. WILL NEVER MAKE ME FUCKING SLEEP I SEE
more opportunities to learn from each other, and of their own selves through other people. seeing more of what truly matters, understanding the world better through admitting one’s mistakes and allowing themselves to be honest and vulnerable towards someone they love and care for. to slowly, gradually, allow the other to share one’s burden, without so much as crossing the lines.
...
you know what i spout so much philosophical-sounding bullshit I AM JUST DYING OVER THOSE KISSES BETWEEN KUJI AND AZUMA!!!!!! uughh i don’t want to let them go just yet ;;;;
