Clowder Circus

Still (sort of) experimenting with style, format, etc. But this was one comic in my grand plans that I had a strong idea for, so it was a good piece to try and figure out what I was doing. I really like this canvas size and the brushes I picked.

Writing? I'm not sure I'm the one to ask 😅 This is my first foray into the world of writing, so I am but a baby. I've just been aiming to have characters that are fun and relatable. I let their personalities lead the charge on how the rest of the story goes.

Favorite character? I never shy away from admitting it is my boi Jingle. I have so much planned for them, and I'm really excited to start getting some of that out into the world.

But in terms of design, I'm actually most proud of Sybil and Callista. I wanted to make designs that harkened back to the "freak show" aspect of circuses without making characters that were outcast.

Sybil is based on the bearded lady and Callista is based on the tattooed man/woman. I have some smaller stories for them, but I super love their designs. I love that they are both really beautiful and elegant characters and that they ended up being best friends :)

Marlon likes that Porter is serious. He likes the passion in his anger as it comes from the drive to do things correctly. Marlon likes his intelligence and listening to him talk. There is something very attractive about people who speak with earned confidence. Also, he is easy and fun to fluster.

Dates? I'm wracking my brain trying to figure this one out. They are both severe work-aholics. I'm not sure Porter even knows how to relax.

A spa date might do them both good. I can imagine Marlon getting regular massages (both for health and recreational purposes) and Porter being forced to chill for an hour lol.

Peanut, Callista, and Sybil are all people who are up to taking on babysitting when the girls need to be watched. Their relationship is friendly, but not incredibly close. At least not at first.

Thank you for asking! It’s very simple. They met at work! One of the comics I want to make about The Clowder Circus is everyone attending tryouts and showing how they joined the circus.

The only characters who knew eachother BEFORE the founding of the circus were Clement and Porter (being co-workers), and Huxley and Angelo (being cousins). Everyone else joined through auditions and specialized hiring.

In a way it's cute to think that Jingle got to choose their eventual best friends :)

Jist kidding. It is a hard choice, though, and not one I think I can make quite yet. I'm sure through the course of writing their stories I'll probably get attached to them in different ways, but, for the meantime, this was a good opportunity to share the existing relationships I have planned out.

Below is a list of all of the major relationships. It is generally fair to say everyone gets along on one level or another, but some of them have really bonded through their time in the circus in beautiful ways.

And, bonus, since I couldn't decide which was my favorite, I included some sketches I've done in the past showing off some of them. I hope you enjoy and let me know which one is YOUR favorite!

And secondly, something a little more interesting: How would the members of the circus fare if they all switched jobs? For example, if Peanut and Porter switched roles.

Firstly, my favorite character is Jingle. They are the titular character that most of the story revolves around and who doesn’t love a silly little guy?

Secondly, I don't think there is a single character that could switch jobs with someone else and do it well. Each character is so specialized with their skills. However, the visual of Peanut, the STILT-WALKER, trying to switch jobs for a day with the accountant, was so freaking funny to me I HAD to draw it.

Thank you so much! I want to make short-form comics. It took a while to get to that decision, though. For a long time I just kept designing characters cause I was having fun doing it, but now I want to do something with all of them!

And gushers? I think the kids would like them the most, Jingle and Egg both enjoy them, and Peanut is indifferent. In general they are a little too sweet for the adults. I hope you enjoy this sketch, and thank you so much for the ask! ❤️💙💛
