the problem more than anything is it's just not that clean in execution, there is no two-man show of duo alters like jekyll and hyde, it's always much more messy and disjointed than that in execution with overlaps and mix-ups and it's more about the dizziness and loss of time than even the distinction between one or more identities.
there is no "split" that happens, it's a train that never had the chance to form one track to ride on, just because one alter does something doesn't mean that another won't just do the same to fall into whatever you set the norm to be. it's why the disorder can't exist without a form of trauma in childhood.
mikoto ironically is the most squeaky clean cut and paste interpretation of a dissociative disorder you could create, it's sanitized beyond the point of even being DID anymore, so why even call it that? he could have simply been played off as a spree killer snapping under stress induced psychosis, it didn't need to be a dissociative disorder if it was going to be so poorly executed.
i liked requiem lots, i don't think it merits harassment towards arrogant writers, but i just feel i'll never live to see any well handled portrayal of DID in my lifetime, which makes me rather sad.
you can have a girl eating rats and feeding them to her partner, but you can't showcase the most mentally exhausting, dizzying messy thing to be so? that has to be clean cut and neatly packaged?
the idea of DID has been so bloated by wannabe chuunibyou fantasists who believe they're a sexy anime "psycho" guy who has a "dark side" in media, from fight club, to moon knight, to split, or danganronpa, or even milgram, it's all absolute garbage.
i will still love mikoto forever though, for how trial 1 with it's looser writing felt, i think if it had stayed vague it would have been for the best.
