I just took the deepest breath… rant on “riorgail rival art thieves au” loading…

Violet Sorrengail didn’t intend to become an internationally renowned art thief. In fact, she had an unconventional start in the world of crime after a lifetime of not even an overdue library book… it all started as a “fuck you” to her mother. It’s all very tentative in my brain but Lilith Sorrengail is a director of museum known for stealing items of cultural and historical significance (think British Museum controversies with questionable acquisition practices) and Violet is her art history major daughter who started as an idealist. That didn’t last long after discovering the truth about her mother. Her disillusionment sets the stakes for her first heist all by herself when she was 20… but once you get a taste for it, it’s hard to say goodbye… fast forward a few years later and she has a crew! She met Rhiannon first (in self-defense classes maybe) and they’re best friends who are absolutely vicious in the field and very cat burglar-esque (Rhiannon specializes in forgeries and counterfeits perhaps)… there’s also Ridoc, who I see as the blueprint guy (a reference to land nav god) slash tech meaning he’s like the man in the chair, and Sawyer, who is the getaway car driver and occasional plant when they need someone to play a role. The amount of thoughts I have on international crime ring Iron Squad alone is wild… truly did not get any work done today, you guys.

Anyways… she first crosses paths with Xaden outside of one of her jobs. A handsome man who passes back on his way out and shoots her a wink. The heist goes off without a hitch and they arrive at the safe house only to find that it was already replaced with a replica. None of the Iron Squad have ever seen Violet’s face get that red before. Suddenly, it wasn’t about fighting for the freedom of art for the masses and against the clutches of capitalism and all that… this beautiful, smug bastard is not going to get away with this!

Thus begins the wildest, most fucked up, internationally followed courtship you’ve ever seen (also the most expensive given their targets) wherein Xaden and Violet complete progressively more audacious and dangerous heists solely to get one another’s attention. The entire art world is in chaos. Their calling cards become ridiculous and pointed. Their crews are begging for them to kiss already before they all end up in prison or dead.

I have a lot more (like Xaden and the marked ones side of things, Liam’s role, their code names, the calling cards they would use, etc.), but I think I’ll hush because I am teetering on the edge of opening a blank word doc…

I really do giggle to myself when I imagine Mira and Xaden at the same outpost. I know Mira was like “I have to keep my eye on Riorson before he breaks my sister’s heart” and Xaden is like… complaining to Garrick about how much he misses his girl, constantly seen writing letters, also almost snapped his spine in half leaning back from a rider trying to come on to him, and is that a fucking wooden bundle of flowers? What the fuck? Maybe he’s not evil and he’s just pathetic?

I'm so glad you asked!! Here's a list of reasons Xaden definitely fell for Violet before she was even bonded to Tairn:

🔪Switching shoes with a complete stranger (Rhiannon) at parapet to make sure she crossed = Her compassion!

🔪Throwing daggers at his head = Her throwing skills and bravado, even if a little forced

🔪Not telling anyone about his meeting with the Marked Ones = Showing her compassion and moral compass is stronger than the codex they live by

🔪Poisoning her opponents in challenges = Her cunning

🔪Using a dagger to get up the gauntlet = More smarts, and then standing her ground to another Wingleader

🔪Going 3v1 against other cadets with a broken ankle to protect Andarna = Her courage and need to protect the defenseless (although Andarna was being cheeky we love her still)

Violet's would probably be ISTJ because I feel like the Logistician archetype fits her well! They are practical, research-oriented thinkers with a willful, stubborn streak. Usually deeply committed with a reliable heart.

For Xaden, I was caught between a few, but I'd probably say ENTJ, or the Commander archetype. Confident, charismatic, and efficient, but also arrogant with difficulties handling emotions. Prone to ruthlessness and they love loudly. Remind you of anyone?
