Covenant of Secunda: Year 1000-1002 (part 1)
The arrival of Secunda’s royal court in 1000 A.T went according to plan. The palace isle had been completed, yet the rest of the province was still being terra-formed and buildings yet put into place.
It did not dishearten the young queen whatsoever, Serkete of house Aetheris was determined to make Secunda into a shining gem in the empire’s crown, one to be proud of. To help her in her endeavor, she ordered the first council to be appointed.
For her lady of the wand (vicereine), she picked Amonet of house Medeis. She was charismatic and kind woman with a heart of gold, Serkete knew she mean the very best for their people. As lady of the wand, she had almost equal power of the queen, and was her voice when she could not speak.
The health of the royal family and Secunda was an important rule, one to be filled by Isett of house Umallaes. The lady of Potions (the royal alchemist) was a stern, no nonsense woman with a tongue sharp, perhaps somewhat cruel, yet her talents was unmatched in the art of alchemy.
The title of the lady of swords (lady knight) was given to Hadis of house Lirralyn. Serkete had been recommended Hadis by her former captain of the imperial heka guard. A great beauty, with a ruthless yet practical mindset. She would uphold the laws of the empire- being its sword and executioner.
Nebete of house Evedelis was picked to be the lady of coins (stewardess). The eldest of all the women serving at 26 years old, she had previously served the imperial treasury. Although she should have the experienced required for her position , she was forgetful and reportable “mishandled” treasury founds.
The one Serkete did not appoint by herself was the mother-seer of Secunda. Lady Lefaris of house Tyrill was choice by the high mother-seer to be the spiritual bloodline of the province. She would help decided on upcoming betrothals, oversee wedding ceremonies and hold crystalium ceremonies of the any baby girl born.
As Queen, Serkete had many households that needed tending to. Two specifics were the house of consorts and the house of wisdom- the home of her consorts and the academy all children of noble families go to between the ages of 10-16 years old. Two sisters, Casis & Pollix of House Santena, would be acting as the headmistresses.
Speaking of the house of consorts, after the first council appointment, Serkete travelled with Casis to meet her 3 consorts. These men had been picked by the empress herself to be the fathers of Serkete’s children.
Their names are Iahaton (left), Asare (middle) and Monthoth (right).
The process of choosing who would lay with the queen was not of her own choice- that would only spark unnecessary jealousy and possessiveness. The headmistress of the house of consorts makes all the decisions. If either of the men get lucky, has a daughter and they get an estate of their own, he himself would be acting as the warden of his daughters’ consorts.
Casis had decided that Asare would be the first, which surprised all in the room. The queen had thought Iahaton , whom was sitting closest to her, would be the father of her first child. She was not unhappy however, as Asare was an ideal consort- affectionate, flirtatious, yet knew his duty to house Aetheris came first. He would perform his duties to the best of his ability, while keep his own heart safe. If their ancestors would bless them with a daughter, his duty would be fulfilled.
Meanwhile, Lady Nebete paid her husband a visit in the Evedelis Palace Isle estate. As the eldest of the council, she believed it was high time for her to produce an heir to her coven’s name.
At the palace isle temple, in waiting for the construction of grand temple, Lefaris and her husband Hesire enjoyed each other’s company in the temple garden. The newly-minted mother-seer’s mind wandered towards continue her bloodline with the man she loved the most. Hopes and prayers for fertility and children were high.
It would take 1.5 year for a tiberi baby to be born, so Serkete kept herself busy by governing and strengthen her control of tiberium. She hopes to become a great sorcerer-queen that would make the great mother proud.
Lady Isett kept was slowly but surely building up the royal alchemy supply. The Queen had asked for multiple bottles of jar of friendship , mean and lean , elixir of enlightenment and the list was going one. It would take years , but it was a challenge Isett was eager to face.
There was also another matter she had on her mind. With the pregnancy of not only the Queen, but the mother-seer and the stewardess, Isett started to think about the future. She had no children with her husband Beshorus - it was something they put off into the distant future, as she did not necessary felt the need to have one right away, but now as a high lady, securing a daugther early would be more beneficial. Her husband might disagree, as he enjoyed the life of a lord-consort without offsprings.
Sometimes , Isett thinks she and Hadis should swap husbands.
Meanwhile , Hadis, in her chambers admired her beautiful face. It was a shame that the empress did not recogness her beauty , for she would have made a glorious queen, she softly scuffed. Jealousy was a nasty feeling to nurture, one Hadis had a hard time not paying attention to. If she had been queen , she would not been forced to be married to one man but would have multiple of consorts , a palace of splendor, more radiant tiberium jewelry and precious gems and metals, silks and satin…
Instead , she was just high lady, the lady of swords… It vexed her, but she felt she had to push back her feelings and focus on what was currently more important- securing herself and house Lirralyn a daughter. Yet Hadis despised children, the mere thought of having a single one made her sick. She feared it would ruin her beauty, so she prayed to the ancestors that 1 time would be enough.
Amonet read and wrote letters towards the terra-former guild and the mason guild. It would take several years to build up the even with the use of tiberium, but it was an exciting time to be alive. The high lady of house Medeis could not wait to see her and her queens plans blossom, and for her descendants to enjoy the fruits of their labour. She missed her husband terrible and could not wait to start their family, yet this took priority. It would all be worth it for them.
Lady Nebete , being a social butterfly, hopes by having allies in court. Her first potential friend is Lady Isett Umallaes. It made perfect sense- Both Isett and Nebete were the eldest of the court, at 27 and 26 respectfully. They were expecting their first child, a potential marriage pack could be formed. The royal alchemist however was very hard to flatter and showed little interest.
She later tried with the Queen, but somehow her diplomacy skill was so low and ended with offending Serkete greatly. Before any true damage could happen Nebete apologies.
Queen Serkete went into labour in the early morning of the last half of 1001 AT. The delivery of her firstborn went smoothly, but instead of Secunda gaining a princess, they gained a prince.
Serkete looked down at her infant son in her arms, gears turning in her mind. Sons were not desired, as they were banned from inheritance and forbidden from welding a tiberium wand, but she had never felt more in love with anything else in her life. Her son’s green eyes looked at her with that look only a newborn had, melting her heart and soothing her soul.
“Acamon, that will be your name, my sweet son. A sister shall come and she will be Secunda’s delight and pride- a queen to be, but you shall be my joy”
After healing from the birth of her son, Serkete returned to the house of consorts. Casis picked Monthoth, the youngest consort to father her second child.
Meanwhile, Lady Amonet Medeis and Mistress Casis Santena also tried for a baby.
Around the same time, Lady Nebete gave birth to a daughter- Betres. The mother-seer also gave birth to a girl, whom she named Ciris. Both children were happy and healthy.
In 1002.At, during a grand party hosted by the court. It allowed lesser members of Secunda’s nobility to meet and mingle. The queen’s consorts, the husband of the high ladies and the mistresses all came.
But during the party, Hadis went into labor and had to return to her chambers. It happened suddenly; the birth had not been planed for several days after the party. She was quickly escorted towards her chambers – there was no way she would be travel towards her palace isle estate in time.
Hadis felt a great relief that the baby she had carried was indeed a girl. The house Lirralyn had an heir, Derenet , and she no longer needed to fear losing her beauty to childbirth. She would not have any more children – that would be the job of the infant she now awkwardly had in her arms, once she was off proper age.
Weeks after the party, House Santena wrote to the queen that Pollix had given birth to a son, named Emus.
Before the end of the first part of 1002, Isett had given birth to a son, whom she named Feron. She was a bit grumpy, but she still lovingly held her boy to her chest.
The last half of 1002 was quiet. The queen, 1 year now into her pregnancy felt suddenly anxiety. Her due date was planned for the 1st quarter of 1003, and she truly hoped this child would be her heir.
Acamon was her joy, but he could never be anything more then the son of a queen. If she had no daughters before the law of 3, her firstborn granddaughter would be her heir, unless House Nefaris decided to give Secunda to a spare imperial daughter. Maybe she would be alright with that, if only her sons were treated well and be given the security of a royal prince and matched with good ladies.
But the law of 3 had not happened yet, so she took comfort in holding her sweet boy.
Lady Nebete, Lady Isett & Lady Lefaris are expecting their 2nd child.
