as much as i would love to use this to /only/ make a point about culture stripmining things for transgender fetishism and leaving the rest to rot, or something, well. that's true. but it's only part of it, imo you see, kancolle's designs were actually so fucking mid that it makes sense. shoving that revealing outfit onto someone and showing off her dick being barely contained by her stupid thong would have more enduring popularity than kongou or i-19 or tenryuu or whoever the fuck else. barely contained girlbulge is head and shoulders above kantai's other designs by default. let's be real. and yeah, it is true that it's a series that's pandering to imperialist japanese nostalgia, and attracting a crowd happy to have a character they can use as a symbol of the place they think trans women should occupy in the social order. let's not pretend transmisogyny played no part in the popularity of trap shimakaze. it was a driving force. but also. girlbulge and tummy is literally better than anything else kantai designs have to offer so it's kind of a clean sweep out here

actually, when i think on it, there's probably something interesting to say about the shimakaze outfit primarily being a cosplay outfit. that means it no longer signals that a piece of art is supposed to depict shimakaze herself. instead, the outfit signals that the art depicts people cosplaying shimakaze. and that serves to push the transmisogynistic values attached to it into a fictional space that mirrors the real world in a more obvious way. there, it can more strongly influence real world behavior, because cosplaying is a real world behavior in the kantai fandom. ...hence the popularity of the "fucking shimakaze cosplayers at the con" brand of doujinshi

Yesterday I had access to a (women's) changing room and didn't need to change my bottoms. It felt strange, that I still couldn't enter. There was no risk of not passing and being harrassed, but still ended up changing in a bathroom.
