Soap who is just so good at what he does and so friendly, always bonding with whatever team they have to partner with, that people keep trying to steal him.
Their brief stint in Mexico to catch Hassan hadn’t gone exactly to plan, and Ghost had been white-knuckling through it all. All business in an unknown territory. Soap was similarly cautious, but couldn’t refrain from his normal patting acknowledgments and inquiries into people’s families.
Alejandro and Rudy got attached quick. To top it off, the way Soap easily cleared the houses and followed orders so well really made them think he could fit in well with Los Vaqueros.
So…right before they split up, Alejandro offered.
“You know, hermano…if you ever get sick of el capitan, you’d have a place with us.” He shakes his hand firmly.
Soap smiles and gives a little laugh, ready to reply and thank Alejandro.
“No.” Ghost interjects first, gruffly refusing.
Ghost likes Alejandro. And yeah, Soap fit in well, but Soap fits in everywhere. Soap fits in with him.
Alejandro’s hands go up in surrender, “apologies, Ghost…didn’t know you were the territorial type.”
“Ah, he’s all bark and no bite,” (a lie) Soap tries to salvage, “I appreciate the offer, hermano. We’ll be in touch.”
It’s certainly not the last time.
Next is with the ULF. Again, Soap brings out the charm, and Alex is almost equally charming so of course they hit it off. And if Alex likes someone, chances are he can convince Farah.
So suddenly Alex is asking before they go, “Soap, man, you did great work here. I remember before I jumped ship with the CIA I felt like I could do more…if you ever felt like that, you have a place here.”
“Back off, Keller.” It’s Price this time, one hand on his vest, the other supporting his gun. He was talking to Farah, but he started to grow a sort of sixth sense for this kind of thing. He spares Alex only one glance to tell him this and goes back to his conversation.
They shake hands, patting each other’s backs, “sorry, you heard the boss.” Soap shrugs.
It’s too familiar now. Everytime they work with someone new, and they start with the whole, “you knoowwww Soap…” the team is quick with the resounding “don’t even think about it.”
