i really enjoy the idea of Coulson as Fury’s Man in the Dark

i think it works well with his Everyman persona to put him in the role of the guy moving all the chess pieces into place that Fury can’t move himself. Being the go-to guy who takes shit off of Fury’s plate and who takes care of things before they can even really touch Fury or his plans. Going places and getting his hands dirty in ways that Fury can’t, and hiding behind an unassuming veneer so that nobody looks twice at him or suspects him even doing anything at all, much less doing anything on Fury’s behalf.

#i love to play with the spycraft bureaucracy #originally this came from thoughts I had on my first watch through of House of Cards but I can’t pinpoint what anymore beyond the idea of #important dirty work and not getting public notoriety/recognition for your importance in relation to an important figure #it’s been years and years but I don’t know that I’ve ever posted about it or had it directly come up in any of my fics #none of my published ones anyways 👀……#.txt #this is not to understate my love for when Phil is brought in as Fury’s protege or sidekick #or when he’s publicly known as an important figure at SHIELD (or only known by a certain caliber of upper agent as a noteworthy parts-mover #or when he’s like. the wise-mage strategist everyone seeks out but not everyone knows immediately to go to #because can I just say: awooga 🤩 to all of those #phil coulson
