Oncidium sphacelatum Orchids are complex for care and growing with the extreme diversity of the species as well as the hybrids that are found. http://www.gardeners.com/Growing-Orchids/5072,default,pg.html
A rose is seemingly the epitome of love and beauty. Synonymous throughout the ages as a token of lust, love and friendship roses are some of the most renown and versatile plants cultivated by man. From tea roses with their sweet aroma to drift roses slowly creeping along the ground providing a beautiful cover plant coveted by many. Roses are sold either as a whole plant or a dry root stalk. When a whole plant is acquired dig the whole twice as wide and deep to provide loose soil for easy growth. With a root stalk repeat the process with the exception of creating a small mound in the center. Separate the roots around mound and cover with soil and compost all the way to the crown. They are grown generally onto genetically engineered root stocks ( In Florida they are grafted onto fortuniana root stalks to resist the Nematodes that destroy root systems. ) to provide tolerances to certain conditions, seeds are generally un available. Roses generally prefer sour soil with a 5-7 pH. A single deep watering a week is generally sufficient for established plants while a new plant may need more until accustomed to their surroundings. There are many ready made fertilizers found in most stores for roses to improve bud growth as well as protect from insects and fungus. There are roses zoned for almost every zone from 4- 10 when looking for a specimen make sure they are appropriate for your area as cold tolerances vary.

Cherry Tree - Prunus Avium The Cherry Tree got its roots with Washington but its history goes farther back then that. They were originally grown in Europe as well as Japan and over time became adapted to the condition and industrial use in the U.S. during the 1600's. The beauty of the tree has always been appreciated and is a symbol of love through the areas they are grown in. They prefer to be grown in well drained fertile soil as they develop root rot in wet or marshy earth. They need a minimum of 8 hours of sun a day due to their early blooming which may take place during early spring freezes. Come the beginning of summer the blooms and fruit are in full swing able to be picked and enjoyed. Sweet cherries bloom earlier then tart cherries are are therefore the most at risk for their flowers to freeze harshly. They are eaten straight often while the tart cherries are used for pies and jams. The trees are self- pollinating and therefore do not need multiple trees to produce fruit; the fruit can come from light red shades all the way to a deep wine color. As the year progresses the leaves turn color and fall off as with most deciduous trees. Cherries are rich in anti-oxidants, containing some of the highest levels in all fruit while also packing beta-carotene vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, vitamin E, iron and fiber. A serving size includes 1 cup of juice, 1 cup frozen or half a cup dried.

Every tree counts (:
Bleeding Heart - Lamprocapnos spectabilis The bleeping heart is a beautiful plant that is usually propagated through root division. Just like buying onion sets from the store, you purchase dormant root sets which are then planted in the desired area crown even with the surface. They generally grow between 1-3ft and require shade in warmer climates allowing them to be planted along with Ferns and Hostas. Plants flower in late spring to early summer and tend to go dormant after. Divisions to separate or sell take place in fall but care must be taken as the roots are delicate and are easily damaged. Seeds must be sown fresh and are slow to grow. They can be grown in zones from 3-10 and require light fertilizer or compost every spring. After the first killing frost plants must be trimmed back to the ground and covered until the following spring. There are 3 general varieties. The Pink and White are the most common while a rarer yellow can be acquired and grown much the same. These plants are purely aesthetic and have no known medicinal uses.
