- Finished Pieces TM are NOT the only works that matter. That half-lined sketch is good. That page of nothing but shapes and doodles is progress. If youāre doing whatever it is that you CAN do that day, youāre doing well
- take. BREAKS. as often as you need to. stop when you gotta. if you try to dig into tomorrowās spoons to finish something, trust me, youāre going to hate yourself and whatever youāre working on later
- if you really want to, you CAN draw (or paint, or sculpt, or craft etc.) every day
- everything counts. everything. canāt draw for more than 20 minutes today? you drew. less than 5? you drew. take a pencil and draw three different circles on a sticky note. you drew. lay out your arm and trace whatever comes to mind with you finger. everything counts.
- if you drew SOMETHING today, you gained more experience than someone who did not
- draw whatever you want
- reward yourself for it
- donāt get so wrapped up in something that you forget to eat, drink water or sleep please. if you canāt make yourself care about what it does to your body, remember it WILL affect your productivity, which will lead to Bad Times, again, trust me

Man I'm scared, can you say something reassuring? I think Tumblr's overexaggerations are making me freak out a bit.
Neither Trump nor Hillary can do most of the things people seem to believe they can. While I do feel bad things may happen, they certainly wonāt be as bad as tumblrās predicting.
We wonāt be put in concentration camps, or send to mandatory conversion therapy, or have our rights stripped away overnight. We will have every opportunity to speak out and fight anything we believe to be unfair. Americaās not going to become North Korea in the span of twenty four hours.
Itās a scary time, but itās not the end of the world.

Couldnāt help myself, I had to do a Halloween picture. Meet Nebula and her siblings, who didnāt get to spend much time together in life. But, thanks to a certain spooky holiday, they still get to meet up every year to spend quality candy-and-brains-gathering time together!

You shouldn't raise the price of your commissions at all. You make fantastic artwork for 20 dollars. It is a perfect price.
Wow Iām sorry but that made me feel really degraded. I wasnāt going to raise it to $100 or something.Ā Itās a perfect price to a buyer, but my art isnāt worth 20 dollars but thatās not my point.Ā
Ā Yes I know itās a good deal, but Iām not a robot. Even if Iām someone that āsuckedā at drawing, the matter is all about the time spent on my drawings. On average it takes me 6 hours to create 20 dollars worth of a drawing. Thatās like 3.3ish dollars an hour. Working all day. Possibly no sleeping until the next day. No breaks except to use the bathroom or to eat 1 cup of ramen or not eat at all. Because of the time limits Iām receiving.
Please keep in mind the only reason people ever charge 20 dollars for a commission is due of the crippling trend of amateur artists selling themselves short at those prices- a trend that artists like Rinji has to compete with. Any self respecting artist knows that is hardly an acceptable price for their works. Rinji knows that. And that is why I applaud them for raising their prices because it is our responsibility as artists to educate people like you that a 20 dollar commission is not a perfect price at all.
I hope you have learned something from this, anon, and please, never, ever assume nor determine the price of an artistās time if you are the client and they are their own employer. The price is set by them and it is your choice to either comply or move on.
can we talk about how living wage is $15/hr? Can we talk about how artists should have THAT as a baseline, and because they are SKILLED WORKERS IN THEIR PROFESSION, should actually be charging even more? I charge at around $15-$20/hr. My dadās a freelance graphic designer and has been in the industry for over 20 years; he charges $80/hr. Rinji works at a little over $3/hr can we talk about how the expectation for low commission prices is a issue, orā¦? because $100 is NOT a ridiculous price. At ALL. Thatās ~$16.60/hour for a 6 hour commission, which is cheap as hell. I mean I get why people price the way they do; competition. HOWEVER: Each commissioner is commissioning YOU because they like YOUR style. Usually? People are more than willing to pay more. Fuck, dude. I worked at a place that sold knife sets for like $2000/set, and people ate that shit up. People spend money on whatever they want as long as they know itāll be quality work that theyāll enjoy.

We should really be encouraging our fellow artists to charge themselves as they would as a professional. Youāre offering your services because you know your art is worth doing business with. If weāre not going to stand up for our own industry, no one will.
