as he’d learned, it wasn’t easy for the people of the commons district- looked down upon by the topsiders who ruled above, the majority of the people in neo domino struggled to make ends meet. a world where the rich had everything to gain and the poor had everything to lose. funny, how he’d been so blind to that until he, too, was thrown away. 

( it was a brief article reporting the apparent death of famous pro duelist vanni borelli, his delta eagle not worth salvaging, despite its unique design. there was no record of a duel causing the crash- and that was it. something easy to miss, overshadowed by others-

the most prominent article came with a photo of king jack atlas- the friendship cup was in full swing. 

the topsiders didn’t care about individual lives; they cared about their entertainment, and vanni promised himself he’d never go back )

he leans against duraludon , lucario having calmed the hero down — ah , his entire team was worried about him . of course they were . cinderace taps her foot in a show of concern ( as if she’s impatient to just get him to someone who could help him — but then again , she’s always impatient ) . corviknight , metagross , & aegislash have found places to rest , knowing that atlas would want to spend some time speaking to psyche .

It wasn't supposed to be funny, people's pain was never supposed to be funny, and yet the scene unfolded before them was more than amusing. And Jay's commentary didn't help at all. Pearls bit down on soft petals, cheeks hurting from just how hard she was trying to smile. HE DIDN’T THINK THE DAY WOULD COME. The day where he couldn’t look at her face without feeling his heart being ripped to shreds in the most achingly, painful manner possible. Anger coursed through his veins and it wasn’t even the right  type of anger where he could block out every other emotion and thought clouding his mind. He was hurt, heartbroken. Calloused digits threaded through golden curls, sardonic laughter emitting from parted brims. It wasn’t funny, but he couldn’t land on a single thought. A whirlwind of chaos in his mind and she thought standing in front of him would be a good idea, like it wouldn’t fuck with his head anymore than it already has. He wanted nothing more than to blame her, to yell at her and make her the villain in his poorly-written story but he couldn’t. He fell in love with her, he willingly treaded the edge of the world for her and expected nothing in return, knowing fully she didn’t feel the same. But hearing it from her, having her admit his own worst reality hit so much harder than he ever would’ve liked. “You’re right, Audrey. I didn’t deserve that. So, why did you do it? Hm?” tone was surprisingly calm, octaves low and settled. “Why?”  Curiosity beckoned him more than anything. “Why would you put me through what he  put you through? I know I let myself be a doormat for you but I really hoped you cared about me enough not to do it.”

Tears filled his eyes. He hated crying. And here she was, making him do something he hated. How could she look so tragically beautiful standing there with his ripped out, still-beating heart in her hand? 

“I’m done with you. Find someone who can make you happy, because it sure as hell isn’t me, or him.”

She'd follow Mal around the Isle and even in Auradon for a short time before she found her own independence. 𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫, honeyed irises planted on the floor in front of her. Maybe he was right, but she didn't feel like it. To her, she wasn't doing enough, not nearly. To her, there was always an improvement to be made. And maybe it was because the words weren't coming from her mother that it almost felt false, pseudo-warmth of accomplishment. Nothing she did would ever really be a success unless she had her approval, and she knew that was something she'd never get. How ungrateful did she sound? How sad was it for her to still crave the acceptance from a source that'd never pull through. She felt like a disappointment. And still, crimson-tainted petals pulled into a smile, though it didn't quite meet the eyes, "𝐢 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐢 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐭."

Choking on his own spit after inhaling wrong, he dropped the act and shrugged, lips pursing at her, “why is it so important to you that I stop, anyways?”
