You lie there in the sun. It’s a crisp autumn morning.
The air is cold and the grass is still covered in morning dew. You can’t see it because it’s behind you, but there is a big wood yard nearby that makes the air smell like newly cut wood.
The place where you lie is a narrow but long space between the yard and the enclosed traintracks. Not many people walk here. You lie in a still world.
Once you had a purpose. Someone chose you or someone had made plans for you. You cant really remember which anymore, but it doesnt matter. You are there on the ground and there is not much you can do about it.
As the sun slowly cross the sky your shadow grows longer. You havent seen or heard anyone all day, except the long trains that occasionally pass.
A few times your hear small birds nearby. They chatter and sing and you wonder what they see when they fly in the sky.
The sunlight is fading now. You know its not long until the ground gets cold and the darkness surrounds everything, then its just the long wait for the light to come back. But you have been here a while, youre not afraid anymore.
At last the only thing you can see is the stars in the night sky. They are beautiful and comforting, blinking to you in the cold night.
When you get so cold that the feeling of your body dissapears, you suddenly realise that everything is as it should. Memories flood back into you and at the same time you see yourself from above. There you are, on your back, on the ground.
Thats when it dawns on you that you are just a carrot someone dropped on the way home from the store.
