“We all have one person who hurt us so much, that it changed us forever.”
— Jos. (via menpale)
“If you can sit down quietly and listen compassionately to that person for one hour, you can relieve a lot of his suffering. Listen with only one purpose: to allow the other person to express himself and find relief from his suffering. Keep compassion alive during the whole time of listening. You have to be very concentrated while you listen. You have to focus on the practice of listening with all your attention, your whole being: your eyes, ears, body, and your mind. If you just pretend to listen, and do not listen with one hundred percent of yourself, the other person will know it and will not find relief from his suffering. If you know how to practice mindful breathing and can stay focused on the desire to help him find relief, then you will be able to sustain your compassion while listening.”
— Thich Nhat Hanh (via diaryofakanemem)
I shaved my head for an art project - my sister took photos of me shaving my head for her art project to discuss coping mechanisms of mental illness and the concept of femininity, it’s always been somewhat of a personal ritual to shave my head when I’m not feeling good about myself in order to force myself to love myself and feel pretty even without hair, hair =/= femininity and I think it’s important to remember that and to remind myself of that. I think every woman should shave her head at least once as an exercise in self love, empowerment and liberation from gender roles.

But no ones ever gonna love you more than I do
you are allowed to have feelings
you are allowed to feel intensely
you are allowed to be emotional
you are allowed to be sad
you are allowed to be angry
you are allowed to be hurt
you are allowed to be frustrated
you are allowed to be happy
you are allowed to be excited
you are allowed to be enthusiastic
you are allowed to feel your feelings
your feelings are not bad or shameful
your feelings are not too much
you are not too much

“Thought that I was dreamin’ When you said you loved me. Yes, it started from nothing. Had no chance to prepare, I couldn’t see you coming. And it started from nothing Oh I could hate you now, It’s quite alright to hate you now. But we both know that deep down, The feeling still deep down, is good. You broke my heart last week. I’ll probably feel better. But if we can still remember how you’d hold me, As you’re screaming my name, The feeling deep down is good. It’s all good, all good, all good… It’s all good, all good ….”
David Bowie photographed by Denis O'Regan in Palm Springs, 1983
The song is based on the true and tragic story of Rebeca Méndez Jiménez, the woman who waited for her love for 41 long years. She died in September last year, at age 63. Local authorities are planning to erect a statue in her honor at the San Blas Port.
Local legend states that in her youth, she fell in love with a fisherman named Manuel. He went out to sea, promising to return to her soon and marry her. Rebeca was so excited that she put on her bridal clothes and waited for his return. Unfortunately, Manuel fell victim to a hurricane, never to return to his love. Since then, Rebeca had been spotted roaming the streets at the port of San Blas. Locals have seen her wandering without any direction, sometimes sitting before the lighthouse and listening to seagulls. She always wore a white dress, with a veil covering her head.
