Record Addict

Johnny Depp being addicted to drugs doesn't immediately make him an abuser or a bad guy. It's also way too easy to judge an addict when you've never had an addiction before, it's not something you can get out of easily, especially if you're not in a good mental and physical place (Johnny Depp struggles with mental health issues). I also think I had heard about how this kind of idea about drugs affects negatively the black community, but I could be wrong.

Johnny Depp having said he cut his finger himself the day of the accident doesn't mean it is the truth. Everybody knows about the story of the victim going to the hospital and blaming their wounds on their clumsiness and the stairs, and the nurses having to ask them multiple times and in different ways to get the truth out of them. Victims lie to defend their abuser, it is well known, and if you use this as an "evidence", than you're victim-blaming.

This trial is about domestic abuse, not racism or r*pe allegations uncorrelated to the abuse. It doesn't matter if the victim isn't a perfect good person, it is still not acceptable to abuse your partner.

Amber Heard being a woman doesn't mean she cannot be abusive toward a man. I grew up with an abusive mother that I have to watch every day abusing my father, a 220 pounds man. I never saw her raise a hand against him, but the emotional abuse I witnessed was as damaging as it could be. You are silencing victims with this idea.

Treatise on tobacco, tea, coffee and chocolate…

Tobacco, tea, coffee, and chocolate are so entrenched in our everyday life, it is interesting to look back at a time when they were first beginning to gain prominence in European culture. As with any new product, some people, such as this author, had some concerns about the effects they would have on the populace.

This book from 1746 has many things that make it interesting: the depictions of the tea pots, the interesting typesetting you can see with the block quotes, even the combination of products highlighted is fascinating. A favorite part of this book, however, is not something Simon Pauli would have liked to see with his work. A handwritten antidote at the end of the book could be viewed as an early version of a review on the back cover, but publishers nowadays tend to stick to positive reviews. 

“Simon Pauli vehemently discouraged his royal master the king of Denmark from drinking tea–though he (the King) had found great benefit from it– affirming it to be very unwholesome. His Majesty gave him this equivocal answer “Credo te nonefie sanum"  (Translates roughly to ” I do not believe you are sane" )

While I cannot vouch for how accurate this story is, I certainly drink enough tea that I quite agree with the sentiment.
