Prelude from Partita No.3 BWV1006 - J.S. Bach - Mandolin Marissa Carroll, an extremely talented mandolinist from Australia. She is truly exceptional. She reminds me of the female mandolin players in baroque paintings.

Harp–lute, ca. 1815 Edward Light (English, active 1780–1820) London Wood, lacquered and gilded; H. 32 3/4 in. (83.2 cm); W. 13 3/4 in. (34.9 cm)
The harplike pillar supports diatonically tuned bass strings to extend the range of the fretted strings. The pitch of the bass strings could be raised a semitone by finger-operated ring stops that work very much like pedals on a harp.

What a beautiful piece of work!! Lutes are so fascinating. The pillar resembles a greek column, with other fine details inspired by antiquity, such as the harp inspired structure and gold floral embellishments. Also, check out the frets. There is a small and odd amount of them. So cool !!
Someday I will go to the Met and visit this, I hope.

Another great performance from David Starobin, this time of Menuetto (Presto) in G major, op. 20, no. 10 by Wenzeslaus Matiegka (1773–1830). He’s playing guitar made by René François Lacôte (1785–1855) with a label signed by the virtuoso guitarist Fernando Sor (1778–1839) and later owned and played by Julian Bream.
I interview David Starobin a few weeks back check it out: Interview with guitarist David Starobin

Apparently this guitar was signed by Fernando Sor and owned by Julian Bream. Its amazing how throughout the life of this guitar it was enjoyed by so many people in three different centuries. I love period guitars because they are not only beautiful to look at but the sound is so unique and warm, like a wise old man/woman.
