Clans of the Mire

The Mire is a stretch of swamp along the coastal Southeastern United States. Primary aesthetic inspirations were the Everglades, Bayou Sauvage, and Brevard County, FL. Consisting of cypress & oak forests, waterlogged swamps and mangrove coasts, the cats of the Mire face just as many environmental conflicts as they do against each other. 

StormClan territory (shown in purple on the territory map) was once home to a tiny village within the local county. Evacuated several years ago due to hurricane damage, the dilapidated buildings have become StormClan's home. The territory at large is characterized by marshes, forest and two rivers- one from the north and the other from the west. Wooden walking paths, boat docks and even a half-caved in church serve as major points of interest. While the twoleg nests are periodically homes for the local barn owl population, StormClan takes them as a challenge and any cat who can kill an owl is considered a hero. This is by far the driest part of the Mire. 

TideClan territory (shown in blue) consists of a stretch of forest that feeds to an estuary, taken over by an expanse of mangrove trees. TideClan has settled in the mangrove trees, nimble enough to navigate the roots with ease. The main thoroughfares are the branches and the roots- though the roots are periodically covered by high tide. Most of the mangroves grow in brackish water, meaning water-fetching patrols are just as vital as finding food. Islands and sand bars are accessible by swimming, but are also at mercy of riding & falling tides. A few sparse twoleg nests are scattered in the fresher waters of western TideClan, but their structural integrity makes them questionable shelters. TideClan's southern point is a warm, sandy beach. 

ScaleClan territory (shown in green) is a dense swamp of cypress and oak. Thick beards of moss fall from the branches of trees and result in a dimly lit territory with a mysterious feeling. Alligators patrol the waters, tending not to pay much attention to the cats around them but not hesitating to snap up the bothersome ones. The southern portion of the territory is surprisingly rocky, leading to a number of caves that house ScaleClan camp as well as the local Moonstone. A small lake in the territory is said to be home to ancient birds that can see one's future. A river running along the clan's north serves as a natural border.

Reckless and wild, ScaleClan cats are vivacious, loyal, and competitive. Sharing their home with alligators and countless other predators, these cats are ready to defend each other at a moment’s notice… as such, they often get hurt, which has led to a culture celebrating scars and imperfections. Though their “make mistakes and learn from them” attitude might not suggest it, these cats are clever and highly spiritual, believing that below the earth within the cave they call home, they can walk amongst the spirits of their ancestors. 

 ScaleClan has come out of the storm to a time of peace, relatively speaking. The pythons which plagued their territory have reduced to a more manageable level, and compared to the other clans their hurricane preparations led to them losing the least amount of cats. But idleness leads the intrepid ScaleClan cats to question their circumstances. Who is marking within their border? Is StormClan planning something sinister, or are there unknown forces at play?

Clans of the Mire is a 16+ Discord-based Warrior Cats roleplay! Join the three clans: TideClan, the clever, adaptive cats of the coast, ScaleClan, the sturdy, agile cats of the gator-infested cypress swamps, and StormClan, the stubborn, stalwart cats of the abandoned twoleg place, as they struggle to coexist in the swamps of the southeastern US.
