INFINITE DARKNESS SPOILERS ! YOU ARE WARNED!
So, Infinite Darkness. I see a lot of Cleon shippers a little divided or disappointed with the end of the show. I think I'll share my thoughts on this lol.
For me there really isn't anything to be sad over it and it's even pretty good angst lol. I don't see a real reason to be mad at Leon for what he did and I don't think that's the end of anything for them. I mean... I'm a big Cleon shipper, but Claire and Leon, even though they look a lot alike, aren't the same. They will always have Raccoon City in common, but after that their path was different.
Leon has a certain patriotism that Claire does not have and that is understandable. He was forced to work for the US government and somehow he never managed to break free from it but beyond that he is friends with the Grahams, really friends and he will be friends later with President Adams too. He has this connection with the American government, a loyalty that Claire does not have, who probably come too from his personality, since he wanted to be a cop. Claire has never joined any organization linked to the American government unlike Leon, Sherry or even Chris. Claire has always been more rebellious and more independent of the American system, where Leon always hopes to improve it and help things in it. They are different at that level.
I also think Leon is trying to protect Claire. Come on, she was against the government in this show and almost got killed. Leon, better than anyone, knows what the government is capable of. By not giving her this chip, he is blocking her way to expose herself more. He looks a little sad how things turned out between them, but also resolved. Was it his right to decide for her? No, but the intention is good, and motivated by affection. In a way, he maybe infantilizes her, as she tells him, he treats her a bit like a child, but it's a protective behavior. Is that totally okay, no, it isn't, because she's not a child but he thinks he's doing well for her, he thinks he's protecting her. So I can forgive that, Leon is a bit dumb after all lol. This is how I felt it.
When Claire tells him at the end that she thinks this costume does not suit him, it is also for me a way for her to tell him that he is following a path which risks destroying him and which is not him. I don't know how right or wrong she's on if that's him or not, but she's definitely right about what it does to him, seeing how things turn out later for him. It’s also her way to show that she still care about him, and even understand WHY he did that, even if she’s pissed off against him.
Anyway, for me everything is fine and I loved it between them. A little angst and tension never hurts, ships would be boring without it lol. And there are so many Cleon bits! Come on, it's almost if he invited her to dinner at the end XD
