A couple more pieces about los mangueros in Mazatlán. 🥭🎨

One of my very favorite experiences from my recent visit to Mazatlán was buying mangos from the manguero. I love that in Mexico, the snacks come to you on the beach! The manguero sells mangos on a stick with chili, lime and chamoy. I’ve never had better mangos in my life. So the next time you’re in Mazatlán, don’t be afraid to flag down the manguero when he comes your way.

I have a book called Hemingway’s Spain that has some amazing photos of matadors and toreros. I’m not a fan of the actual sport but the way the toreros move is really beautiful. I really liked the shapes and forms they make and I’ve been trying to practice putting more interesting shapes and gestures into my figure drawing.

TURT ALERT! I’ve always loved drawing and painting turtles. During quarantine I’ve been visiting a little pond that’s full of the most adorable slider turtles. Here are a few that I sketched in my sketchbook with a splash of digital color. 💕🐢

Yes, I jumped on the bandwagon! I wanted to see what baby yoda would look like as a Chuck Jones character. Here is my contribution to the phenomenon that is Baby Yoda.

Winter thoughts...

Of course I can’t make a post about a visit to Mexico without talking about the FOOD! Comida tapatía está increíble! I dream about the bread there and I ate my favorite: birote salado, as well as trying pan de muerto for the first time (delicious), churros, alfajores and pañalito <3. We also went to my favorite brunch spot La Cafetería for chilaquiles rancheros, and to 1000 Caguamas for beer and the best aguachile! I also at a torta ahogada en bolsa which I’m told is a super tapatío thing to do. All in all everything was delicious, no surprise there!

The past couple of weeks I was in Mexico visiting my boyfriend. Since it fell right at Día De Muertos I thought it would be fun to draw us as calaveras during some of our adventures! From going to Punta Mita, watching an Atlas match en Estadio Jalisco, and dancing almost every night. It was a trip full of fun and the magic of Jalisco Mexico (and Nayarit ;-) ).
