CJ Crossett, Hand Over Hand: Interview with Wayfinder, 2019
When I moved to Chicago in 2018, I wanted to get started on a form of creating my own community platform and space. Having been unsuccessful finding work for photography freelance in magazines and print publications, I decided to take a step in the direction of creating my own magazine highlighting artists and entrepreneurs in the area which I'd hoped would (in the very long run) turn into a community space hosting workshops, artist residencies, classes, and a supper club.
Unfortunately just about the time we'd wrapped a year of conducting and transcribing interviews, created our design/brand, etc is when the pandemic here.
Here are snippets of those in-person interviews and the transcribed interview. The goal of these interviews were to highlight artists BUT to focus on the community and other folks that brought them to where they are now. No one finds themselves on their creative journey without support, mentors, teachers, friends, and family who have informed them along the way.
