Generally, I’m more drawn to dynamics between characters that know one another well and have a connection that is kind, sweet, and sincere.

Charlie and Cameron dislike one another to such a deep extent. It’s not about a misunderstanding or small incident. Their primary values contrast entirely and they react to Neil’s suicide in essentially the opposite way. Trying to picture them together reminds me of being around real life couples who don’t respect each other. It frustrates me when people completely betray their sense of self for the sake of a badly matched relationship; It’s annoying to witness in real life and for this particular pairing is something I wouldn’t get past. For me, fandom is like playing with dolls. I don’t wanna be annoyed during that activity! It should be fun!

There is no doubt something interesting and entertaining about ships that are somewhat stifled, toxic, or otherwise off. I can totally get on board with something that falls outside of my usual cozy, happy space I like to be in. But those pairings are only interesting to me when I can believe there’s a reason they’re connected. Things like jealousy, selfishness, or mental health issues can create a cool push and pull between characters. But with Charlie and Cameron, all I see is push, no pull. I can’t buy that two people who are this opposed on such a fundamental level would actually love one another or even be capable of enjoying spending five minutes together. 🤭

Above all, though: I just love Knox and Charlie together too much to ship Charlie with anyone else.
