I can almost taste the “opposites attract each other.” The things that make Helaena seem “weak” in Westeros would be cherished by the elves.

Thranduil is bitter, but even when he is rude, she can see he cares. Maybe Helaena is the doppelgänger of his wife, and he loathes it—hates that some mortal wears his wife’s face.

Yet she makes her way by being her strange self: speaking in riddles, pointing out that some insect doesn’t belong in that tree, saving an old oak without meaning to. The other elves indulge her odd speech; they like her kind but sweet voice. It’s hard not to like her when she is so happy tending to animals… but they begin to notice that sometimes her strange words turn out to be true.

I've been trying to figure out why I adore this picture so much. I think it comes down to how it's re-contextualized the iconic pose of Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist from the Brokeback Mountain movie, to portray something incredibly poignant about Robby and Jack in The Pitt.

The original pose depicts a peaceful, perfect moment for Ennis and Jack T on Brokeback: both of them young, their story together just beginning; they're not broken yet.

This picture inverts everything. Jack A is in Ennis' place, holding Robby in a faithful rendition of the pose. But it isn't a peaceful, perfect moment. They're both older and worn down by life; Robby's smiling, yes, but he looks down in regret and pain, the same expression he has in s2e9 when he walks away from Jack.

Also, unlike the iconic pose, Jack isn't smiling shyly; his face is drawn, he's worried. Jack's not just holding Robby; he's holding Robby back, trying desperately to keep him tethered to the world.

The BBM quote perfectly encapsulates Robby's predicament too. He can't fix the profoundly broken system he's stuck in no matter how hard he tries. But he can't stand it anymore, and they both know it's killing him. All Jack can do is hold Robby together the best he can.
