A GAY REFUGEE MAN ATTACKED ONCE AGAIN IN THE CAMP π’
A week ending in COLD BLOOD. Our vulnerability in Kakuma refugee camp is still being skeptical by authorities, leading to more homophobia.
There's is a more larger room given to attacks against queer refugees in Kakuma refugee camp.
The heart breaking fact remains that authorities are the ones expanding room for torture, persecution and hate crimes against us in a place they well know that it's not welcoming to lgbtiq refugees.
This is all still happening despite lives claimed, organisations producing reports of homophobic terror, babies getting buried, LGBTQ getting permanent body injuries, having gays lose their site, skulls getting cracked, denial of services from camp hospitals and other public service centers in the camp, and so much more.
Literally, this is a no lesson to anyone meant or mandated to protect refugees regardless of sexuality or gender identity, but rather it's a lesson to them to implement and force solutions that aren't totally life saving.
Solutions like forcing victims of homophobic violence including (rape, attempted murder, police brutality, undressed in public, denied services, intimidations and threats, and so much more) to sit on a round table and plead for mercy.
Solutions like counting on the police yet they're one of those we are requesting to be protected from due to their homophobia against queer refugees.
Solutions like forcing lgbtiq refugees to integrate in the camp community by doing livelihood projects of which these end up exposing us to already proven homophobic unwelcoming communities.
None of such solutions will ever bring a durable solution to us, but they will instead perpetuating and call for more of the attacks to increase. π
With all these, we ain't ready to sit back and watch these acts continue being a way of living for lgbtiq refugees in Kakuma refugee camp. We promise to continue condemning them, fighting them and saying NO to homophobia against LGBTI refugees.
If authorities ain't ready to condemn the atrocities we are going through in the camp, the we the victims are ready to do so without fear or favour. πͺ
