Possible future additions to the Energon Universe
A little over a year since their introduction in the 2025 FCBD, MASK will become the fourth ongoing of the Energon Universe. Their introduction has been gradual, slowly but surely integrated via the pages of G.I. Joe and Transformers (general issues about pacing the latter aside). Overall, much more organic than what IDW did with Revolution, which was more or less smashing a bunch of IPs together that, up until then, had nothing to do with one another.
Now that MASK is a part of the EU, the question now is, who among Hasbro's collection of IPs will be next to join?
Let's get the obvious "No's" out of the way first. Power Rangers, Jem, MLP, D&D, and MTG, as their various licenses are held colelctively by Boom! Studios and Dark Horse. And, unfortunately, Hasbro had lost the rights to Inhumanoids years ago.
If you had asked me a month ago, I would say have said that Rom Spaceknight and Micronauts would also be out of the running as potential members of the EU, thanks to Marvel getting the license to reprint both series old runs. That was before I saw this preview for Void Rivals #33
From the blocky body, the feet, the hands, and the head, the figure whose entire body has been blacked out looks, with the addition of gribbly bits, tp me like it could be one of the shapeshifting Dire Wraiths, Rom's archenemies, having shapeshifted into a Spaceknight form.
Now, I've been wrong with my predictions before, so we'll have to wait and see if this thing really is a Dire Wrath. If it is, then it also opens the door to Micronauts also being a part of the Energon Universe as well.
Finally, let's talk about he very possible additions. First would be Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light.
The homeworld of the Visionaries, Prysmos, might have been referenced in the pages of Void Rivals, though that could have just been a reference.
The other possible candidate is Action Man, the UK/International version of G.I. Joe (though that's an understatement that does a disservice to its long history). IDW had included Action Man in it's Revolutionverse as a super spy... which crashed and burned after only a handful of issues.
Recently though, Hasbro just announced an Action Man figure for their G.I. Joe Classified line.
While this isn't a guarantee by any measure, the G.I. Joe comic has made use of Classified designs in the past.
