Been awhile since we shared some of our prompts, where was a writing prompt from last week! We had skipped a writing prompt and gave them two

“Man I really wish I had some more cookies. They were super tasty. Oh the Scooge? Yah, last timeded I was attacked by one of those I'I'I'I'I was climbin’ up a tree in Kill Tearass an'an'and I fell in a bee house an'and it was super sticky an BIG! And then i kept on fallin an’ rollin and got lots of dirt and rocks and stuffs stuck to me so when I got home Roo attackeded me with a Scooge and said you needs a bath” @ciirianshandralin

Rathfana ponders it a moment. “Biggest regret? Probably being unable to save my adoptive mother from having to give her life so i could stay safe…which kinda leads us to the answer of your other question.” she holds up one of his pistols. “Sending those hellspawn undead back to their graves in pieces.”

There are two empty boxes of cake on the table in front of Cyliaa; along with various different papers, letters, bottles, and trinkets all scattered about. She thinks for a long moment, filling the silence with the scratching of a quill pen on paper before finally the cogs in her head start working. “Oh! I was in Darkshore when the whole ghoul thing happened. It was also the first time I met my master! I guess my mother knew her and they were the best of friends. Honestly I don’t remember much about that whole thing! The sentinels protected us and that’s why I want to be a sentinel too! So I can protect people again from all of this mess!” She smiles so brightly, but for a split moment her smile falters ever so slightly. “Biggest regret…mmm…too many to really list off! I guess I still feel bad about leaving home so suddenly. Oooh! I wonder if Miss Dyllie has any more cake left!” With a push away from the table, she walks out of the house. One last quick look at the table and one might notice how there was only one fork instead of two…

And for the fans, whether you jam out to alternative rock or scream to epic metal ballads you won’t want to miss this! 

LA MASQUERADE events presents a night like no other to bring together all the eclectic houses of Rock n Roll! Come out to mosh harder than ever before in a breathtaking manor that will enthrall with its atmospheric vibes. And the Fence Macabre caravan will be serving aromatic and robust drinks to keep you energized all night long!  The Harpies will be judging the competition with a special guest and there will be three winners for the night. All bands must pre-register to compete and the first place winners will get artwork of their group!!!

In this time of spooky spirits and fascinating frights, have you remembered to pay respects to the dead? Those loved ones who passed on to the spirit realm? We have all experienced the sadness of loss, but we must remember to celebrate the memory of our loved ones. Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a revelry that honors deceased loved ones with beautiful ofrendas (offerings), jovial music and delectable dishes! This festival encourages us all to examine the universal experiences of life and death.

LA MASQUERADE events proudly presents a colorful celebration to commemorate the dead! Join us for a Day of the Dead extravaganza like you have never seen before! Mariachi and various types of Latin music will invigorate the living & dead from dusk till moonrise. Calacas (skeleton) masks and calavera (skull) face painting will be offered for all. And there will be two special presenters speaking on the holiday from very different perspectives! You won’t want to miss this~

💀🌹 Brief History of Dia de los Muertos

Día de los Muertos is a multi-day Mexican holiday that is celebrated in Mexico and elsewhere in Latin America. The holiday is celebrated each year from October 31 till November 2nd. It involves family and friends gathering to pray for and remember loved ones who have passed away. The roots of this tradition started about 3,000 years ago from indigenous peoples such as the Aztecs and other Nahua people’s rituals for honoring the dead. They held a cyclical view of the universe, and saw death as an integral part of life. Upon dying, a person was believed to travel to Chicunamictlán, the Land of the Dead. Only after getting through nine challenging levels, a journey of several years, could the person’s soul finally reach Mictlán, the final resting place. In Nahua rituals honoring the dead, family members provided food, water and tools to aid the deceased in this difficult journey.

El Día de los Muertos is not, as is commonly thought, a Mexican version of Halloween, though the two holidays do share some traditions, including costumes and parades. On the Day of the Dead, it’s believed that the border between the spirit world and the real world dissolves. During this brief period, the souls of the dead awaken and return to the living world to feast, drink, dance and play music with their loved ones. In turn, the living family members treat the deceased as honored guests in their celebrations, and leave the deceased’s favorite foods and other offerings at gravesites or on the ofrendas built in their homes. Ofrendas can be decorated with candles, bright marigolds called cempasuchil and red cockcombs alongside food like stacks of tortillas and fruit. Pan de muerto is a type of sweet roll shaped like a bun, topped with sugar, and often decorated with bone-shaped pieces of the same pastry. Calaveras, or sugar skulls, display colorful designs to represent the vitality and individual personality of the departed.

The autumn season is here and that means it’s time to invoke the festive spirit of renewal! Do you like getting messy with colorful paints and powders? Dancing nonstop with the rising sun? How about a party that heralds new beginnings? Caught your attention? Good! Cause J’ouvert (pronounced Jou-vay) is a festival that welcomes the start of Carnival celebrations and you are invited!

LA MASQUERADE events proudly presents a Caribbean daybreakers fete (party) beneath the morning sun! Join us in celebration of J’ouvert with the bombastic sounds of Soca and Calypso music. Come get drenched in water, paint, and powder while jumping and jamming at the Cape of Stranglethorn! 

OOC: J’ouvert Daybreak is the first in a series of events to showcase Trinidadian culture to Azeroth. My family is from Trinidad so sharing these pieces of our culture is very special to me. 

🥭 Caribbean Culture: Trinidad & Tobago 

J’ouvert is a tradition of resistance that has resonated throughout the hearts of many Caribbean people. J’ouvert marks the official start of the carnival celebrations that occur every year in Trinidad & Tobago. It all started in 1783 when French settlers’ introduced masquerade balls to the Caribbean. The slaves were banned from participating in their masters’ Carnival celebrations, so they would hold their own in their backyards. Once emancipated in 1838, the people of Trinidad & Tobago blended their own rituals and created a new Carnival. One that embraced the festival as an expression of freedom. Certain J’ouvert traditions are carried forward in remembrance of the civil disobedience against oppression such as people smearing themselves with oil or paint to avoid being recognized.  

Calypso and Soca music are the musical souls of the celebration as it reflects the voice of the people. Calypso music was developed in Trinidad during the 17 century and is characterized by highly rhythmic and harmonic vocals. Prior to the independence of Trinidad and Tobago, calypsonians (singers of the genre) would use their music to provide socio-political commentary. Soca developed from Calypso, but that will be discussed in the next history entry. Both musical genres are played during the J’ouvert festival as people dance through the streets before sunrise into the hours after. Across the Caribbean, J’ouvert is celebrated in a multitude of ways, but always proceeds before the big Carnival or “Pretty Mas” parade. J'ouvert values the transgressive dirt, while Pretty Mas celebrates the transcendent glitter.

Calling all poets, storytellers and coffee lovers!

The Howling Owl is a premier faction neutral coffee shop and bar located in Pandaria and previously owned by Alaris Sunspell and Saeil Moonblade but now run by Lianellie Quinne and Laenne Leaffall . Each month we host an event that allows our patrons to recite poems, tell stories, or even share music for the others in attendance to enjoy. These can be original works or can simply be their favorites. Real world adaptations are fine too!

Location: The Druken Hozen, Dawn’s Blossom, Jade Forest, Pandaria

When: Friday, August 21st Doors will open at 6PM WrA server time

Drinks and snacks will be served until 6:30PM when readings will start. Then halfway through we will take a half an hour intermission where you can order more drinks and food. Then afterward, drinks and food will be served again. Feel free to mingle and stay as long as you like!

All races, factions and other servers are welcome! So remember your elixir of tongues!

NOTE: Please remember that you’ll have to leave any weapons at the door! No fighting on the premises please or you’ll be removed by security!
