The FINALE! We had 4 fantastic presentations with 4 reinvented landmarks! The Experimentarium science centre was expanded to include the entire Paper Island, with a maker/creator app for people to collaborate on local projects. ‘Gangbro’ meaning walkway in Danish, was the output from the Lakes team. A walkway that preserves the quiet of the lake, but also allows people to connect. The Kastallet, or the star-shaped military island was tackled by 2 teams, one creating a military themed game, and the other a prison themed immersive experience/b&b!
We were really impressed with what the teams managed to achieve in the week and we learned a lot from how they tackled the process. We hope that they will continue to use the tools, and create some of their own!
Thank you guys, you were awesome!
It’s Day 5 and its presentation day. The teams are finding ways to tell their story and sell their concepts. The ‘umbrella’ theme are currently rehearsing how they sell all of their concepts to the Copenhagen Kommune!
Meanwhile, the teams are continuing to develop their concepts and prototypes!
This brief was not just about their individual landmarks, but a city-wide festival. After they found some potential connections between their landmark concepts, we set them as task of designing a poster campaign for the entire 2018 festival. This was an opportunity for the students to think big and find the common thread between their projects, but also to form an ‘umbrella’ team where a member from each of the existing teams would collaborate on how to pitch the whole idea.

As another development tool, we introduced ‘concept speed-dating’ where the concepts essentially date each other for 5 minute brainstorms. This is a way to find commonalities between their concepts and identify new opportunities.
Now they have some feedback on their concepts from each other, they can start prototyping. Filo and Gizem give them a crash course on all the different types of prototyping and send them off to start creating!
Instead of a group feedback on their scenarios and blueprints, we wanted the students to practice their constructive criticism. We mixed up the teams to create mini ‘brain trusts’ and build on each others concepts, as well as identify anything that wasn’t quite right yet.
It’s Day 3 and first task of the day is creating scenarios and blueprints! This helps piece together the story and highlight what touchpoints and features they will need to design.
As a part of concept development, we asked the group to think about ‘lenses’ that might affect their personas/scenarios/concepts! This can be environmental, social or behavioural factors that will change the concepts focus or user’s needs.

After clustering all of their ideas, key concepts started to emerge. Now the teams had to define these a little further for the next stages of concept definition!
Brainstorm time! Sweets and paper at the ready. The teams took 15 minutes for each design challenge, with one person moderating!
We understand our problems and we understand who we want to design for. Each team came up with 3 design challenges. How might we....
It’s day 2, and time for ideation! In preparation for the brainstorms, the teams prepared personas as inspiration tools. Rather than base the personas entirely on the people they met, the aim was to define their 'new audience'. This was a particularly nice example of personas!!
The students have returned from their landmark research and are throwing themselves into analysis and post its! the 4 landmarks are: The lakes, the experimentarium city on Paper Island and the Kastallet (the star shaped military island) - this was chosen by two of the teams.

This morning we have been talking and getting to know each other, but now its time to start doing! The students have been briefed and prepped for an afternoon of user research! The brief? Reinvent a Copenhagen landmark! Let's see what they find!!
Day 1
It’s great to finally meet everyone and learn a little bit about them! It seems we have experts across many fields so we are very excited about what projects come out at the end!
