Celery Sticks

The fat acceptance movement is filled with the young, who are obsessed with self esteem and beauty.  It is filled almost exclusively with those who fail to see the sickness, the outright darkness that awaits those who fail to care for their bodies.

You’ll never read a body positive post about some poor soul who is obese, middle aged, immobile, incontinent and laying alone on a dingy mattress.  One that is heavy with their own putrid faecal matter and stained yellow with urine.  

Their  bed sores raw, open, red and blisteringly painful.

Their feet so badly infected that sores ooze a yellowish puss from the bulbous, useless appendage that only vaguely resembles a foot.  One is left to wonder if the infection has been left untended for so long, that amputation remains the only solution.

Laying there in their filth, dehydrated, confused and with blood sugars so far out of order, invariably at some point, perhaps reaching for food, soda or a tv remote, they fall out of their bed and after crashing to the floor, they lay frozen precisely where they landed.  So heavy and so ill that it is all they can do but cry out for help in the hopes a neighbour hears their cries.

Time passes, a neighbour hears them, the emergency services arrive, they force entry into the dwelling and are of course met with a stench so overpowering that it takes the breath away from even the most seasoned veteran.

It is now the job of paramedics to treat this suffering soul,  no matter that they are exposing themselves to contamination or injury in moving such a heavy mass, this now becomes their problem.

This isn’t fiction, this is what awaits many who refuse to care for their own health and who view obesity as nothing more than a benign way of being. 

 Don’t believe it?  Talk to a paramedic and yes, this is a reality that the body positive and fat acceptance movement will never, ever mention.

Reality cannot be staved off with positive thoughts, no matter how beautiful you tell yourself you all are.
