you have a tragic, heartfelt musician who deserves to be the tragic protagonist of a shakespearian or gothic drama? smack him in the background of a powerscaling protagonist-fanservicing gacha game where he's mistreated by everyone stronger than him and its played off as a joke

you have a neglected son of a nobleman, marrying a woman who forces herself on him so he can escape his family? he could be a lovely lead character in a period piece, maybe not the main one but a valid side character with a good arc. but nooo hes the villain of a half arsed movie that basically says abuse is ok as long as theyre technically a victim and pretty.

a handsome, drop-dead sexy possessed musician doomed to a tragic story that could be some spine-chilling like. poe-ish thing? nah hes a background character who gets gaslighted by the "intellectual" leads. a resourceful, genius swordsman who has quite a tragic story in his own right? nah, he's only used for comic relief because hes handsome and popular with fans who belittle him.

allegro: eli. he feels guilty about the situation, like how eli was kind of wary of the 2nd years' goals if it ended badly for them like for her.

scherzo: nozomi. sometimes hes been in aus with allegro as kind of a friend/older friend figure. they dont get that sorta closeness in dmverse but they should.

alledrea: nico. i think the extra-ness speaks for itself. but also nico supporting her siblings, and alledrea also doing that.

coda/codaloid: honoka. the most idol-knowledge of the squad, close friends with anda, a little sunshine.

anda: umi. again very obvious. tho besides that anda is also sometimes the cool-headed and cautious one

oktova: kotori. good vibes photobomb bird, maybe the long hair they have in common and cheery personality?

scherzo: hanayo? i was originally not sure but i think his passionate personality works w her

i was a bit annoyed thinking it was mary like "are they really gonna just attach her nephew she abuses and helps his mom abuse to her constantly" but it looks like thats not relevant to this (hopefully). (i lowkey really dislike the mary retcons. like between the ones like heavily based on historical figures couldnt they have retconned the jack stuff instead, and just made mary like some person who projects too hard on marie antoinette, hence the mostly historical story?)

rewrites/retouches:

not really conventional rewrites because they literally had nothing completed and were basically just story concepts, mostly fully fleshed out, in my head. uh.. from like 10 years ago abouts.

-traveling ben: i still want to do something absolutely epic with it, like a vn style thing or whatnot. but that takes a lot of coding which i dont have lol. anyways it was really nostalgic, as tb is one of the first things i got really into writing/making as a story. focusing more on tb1, i also really love that it was my first real brush with time travel and making an absurd but also fanservice-for-me story. which is always good. i think its fun to make it make thematic sense in retrospect, and i feel like the themes (that being family + one-sided but unconditional love) really fit it and are good in general.

-plateaubottom: still wip. it just sorta yknow... swooce. swooced in there. its very cliche young adult fiction-style fic and universe, but i think it can be fun too. the thing is, however, theres a lot of concrete pb stuff and until i can find and salvage what essentials i can, i dont wanna write something that either contradicts or veers really off course canon. i feel like the writer of an anime thats caught up with its canon manga. its filler time.

-winner adventures: back on it with gelert family! luckily sosh is so solidified tbh, its a pretty understandable plot. i still havent completely finished it but hey, 90 percent done is pretty ok. adgcc is so good too but i think the logistics of it (and any other christmas carol thing) are a bit tricky lol.

new stories!

-book 8: honestly i think its more coherent than b7 lol. however i still havent finished it. goal is before the 7th now ig??? i think theres a lot all at the end, thats why (partly at least). eostra and eadgyth are fun characters, if a bit incidental. but idk they cant help that lol. the plot is ok, not any big character breakthrough moments (for the main cast at least) but the supporting cast have some nice parts, and lutdel sibling bonding is always you love to see it.

-golden week record: the pre-golden week story, very chaotic very crossover. it was fun to make a return for jojo marie, clonethoven, and katerina, and it was a bit of a tribute to dor aemon movie which lives rent free in my head!

-witches of the golden night: fun story, but ig bc golden week canon events have diverted from the trend of torturing my faves ive been less fired up to do spinoffs of them. however its nice to see magic girls becoming friends and saving jeekins together.

and various lore stuff too!

-golden ration backstory: a fun addition/continuation. its your fault for me getting back into continuing plateaubottom ration! (actually no its losh. obviously). anyways its a cute story, ration is actually really wholesome, and pb academy is fun! a taste of the level of crossover to come!

-moyashi backstory: i love the added backstory with professor sequoia, its both wholesome and like. shameless fanservice for me. the tie in to dog guides one of all things is so fun tho! and like. explains a good part of dog guides 1's bizarre plot. but i dont think it feels too forced either also, so thats really nice.

-dog guide extended lore: i guess phoenix, lhdg, and technically jack and maybe pizza are all new this year? dog guides should come back, theyre fun. dog guides are also fun because canonically they have no lore set.

-tsubastien next part?: still wip i guess? but it would be cool if it ends up being canon! i love tsubastien, its so weird, but i think it could also be really fun.

i still think they look very matching and cute.

new units:

-favorite new heroes character(s): i wanna say glen? hes probably the most fave-fave who was added this year. shout out to characters like yukimura, mozu, hayato, arlen, the solm and elusia guys (and their hound ghbs), and the last batch of fe6 guys for becoming playable, theyre cool. and shout out to fallen ursula for making my memes canon. you go girl, also you deserve better.

-favorite special heroes character(s): ponytail alear is really cute, and both of the twin stewards' seasonals were neat too (even tho i prefer their base forms). the summer hrid is real, which is great. tho thats kinda the extent i feel super strongly towards positively lol.

-favorite legendary/etc character(s): hraes and nid babeyyyyyy!!! tbh the only ones i liked this year and they ate all my orbs RIP. but that said i did also get m shez for no orbs so he gets a shout out.

-favorite resplendent of the year: ofc my favorite character wise is laegy? but i dont like her resplendant art or theme (which is weird bc the voice lines were good). i like the art for cat, brave miccy, and bk i guess.

canon plot

-you have to say one thing nice abt this year's book (whether characters, plot, music, etc?): its nice that hraes and nid are two cool characters in the book, and as far as main villains go, laerdhar is meh but not as just. despiseable as someone like frej ya or eit ri.

-you have to say something nice abt tempest trial too: pyazi is cute and cool and im glad we have one jotun who is tolerable (her art is weird that she looks much happier than her voice lines? but idk i think it kind of works). it also didnt seem like tooooo much of a retcon and like book 3, only enforced the negative traits of the main characters rather than retconned their personalities (like b2's)

-things you didn't like/criticisms: the music for b8 i find kinda forgettable compared to bangers like 7, 6 (elms theme specifically), and 4 and insulting bastardizations making fun of a musical genre like 3 and 5. speaking of insulting the april fools was not so good but then again the only ones ive liked were the 8bit parody (which was ok i guess) and the legendary f eh one. i feel similarly to b2's tt for b5. like really, of all the interesting angles you have to just introduce a new concept out of nowhere and do nothing for pre existing characters???? it was disappointing but not surprising tho imo.

-if you had to choose a favorite character in the main plot/tempest trial (theres gotta be at least one): hraes, nid, and pjazi. i like them all. literally all the rest of the characters, hard pass.

-favorite fb/tempest trial story(stories? if were lucky): bors and lut at the end just pulling out all the stops. easily the best interaction ive seen in a while. the ogier one was nice too. honestly i think a lot of fb were fine, the bad ones just leave a bad taste in my mouth. nothing really stands out to me tt wise tho lol. ig the chrom and luci one was wholesome tho.

-if you had to describe the theme/vibe of the book (fic) in 1-2 words? self-improvement, next step?

-what oc do you feel like encapsulates the message of the book fic the best? like idk. em for book 6: imean theres two, eostra and eadgyth. i guess with the theme of self-improvement, then eostra. it doesnt really count but i think elanor also fits both themes tho shes in the side story lol. im also just realizing everyone has an "e" name. rush e was the friends we made along the way.

-what is your favorite character interaction of the book? i love every bit of the plumisurla dynamic. evil ladies snarking at each other. they got mad disney villain energy, but like. if two slay queen disney villains also were fond (in a wholesome way) of a two braincells princess/protagonist and became part of the squad (not in a bad way, in a fun and neat way, not in a stupid way like in actual movies). i feel like kaze got some good scenes, being the glue that keeps everyone from tearing each others throats lol.

-what is your favorite character development of the book? delthea being the main character of the nidavelir theme. also i havent written yet but herrinthr and otr standing up to eitri bc she was mean to sola.

-whats one criticism/change/something youd do differently if canon was different: i feel like 7 and 8 both dont have as grounded plots, partly bc theres so many damn characters. i think 8 is a bit better, with eostra and eadgyth acting as surrogate main characters kind of. more development/screentime from "spy" to get us more invested in his fate, and more development/screentime just adventuring abt yggdrasil with eostra and eadgyth. tho i feel like the latter could easily be a spinoff material for like a "five minute disney story" but heroesverse.
