i chronically think about the secret place on destiny islands. how that’s sora and riku’s place. their hideout from all of the fake monsters they come up with in their child minds. how no one else knows about it but them.
i think about their little monster-hunting club they form. how they swear to protect their island from danger. how late they’d stay in the cave and their parents couldn’t find them when it was time to go home. how the parents demand to know where they were but they refuse to tell them because it’s a secret. how all the drawings are from all of their monster-hunting adventures.
then i think about kairi arriving on the island for the first time and sora becoming her friend immediately, riku being slow to warm up. sora one day invites her to the cave and tells her it’s a secret and she can’t tell anyone about this place. riku finding the two of them in the cave some day and getting mad at sora for breaking their secret without asking him. it wasn’t the fact that he didn’t trust kairi to keep it a secret or was opposed to her joining their club, it was that sora just made that decision without him and didn’t care to know what he thought or felt.
and maybe all those feelings come back when riku sees sora with donald and goofy in kh1. how easy he found friends after being separated from him and kairi, it feels the same.
but anywho kairi joins the club and the secret place just feels like a very sacred place for them. i think about all the little things that go on in there all the time.
Reminds me of these panels from the manga
Sora is the one who says they should make it their secret hideout, to not tell anyone, it’s THEIR secret place. Then Riku sees the drawing Sora and Kairi made on the wall and he knows Sora shared the secret without telling him first. And god just the expression on his face paralleled with his expression when he arrives at Hollow Bastion, having been separated from his friends. He feels the same loneliness now as he did back then
omg i forgot about this!!! i knew those worms must’ve came from somewhere. legit exactly what i had in my head.
