I'm genuinely getting annoyed at the official translations (as an ex-fantranslator who would spend 3-5 hours weekly on researching and adding notes to the manga chapters I was doing). would it kill them to add a tiny note explaning what is going on with the dialogue in the original so that the translations doesn't feel like a disjointed mess
anyway, joltai showa educational time: ζζηΎ (Gaara) literally means "self-loving demon" (thanks dad I guess), and the character he's etching on his own forehead is the second in his name, ζ (love) as he's having a bit of a crisis over what love is.
and yeah fun fact number two, the final kanji in Gaara's and Karura's names is the same, so Karura ends up as something like "demon adding to the flow"
