My EVE Online Experience

So, I’ve left the corp I was at. I decided that there was a shit ton to the game and what these guys were doing just didn’t really seem that interesting. So this time, before applying to join any corps, I’m just gonna chill and explore the game. Right now, I’m doing the Exploration agent missions and learning about it a little. It seems interesting.

I guess my overall goal is to have a presence on that political map I reblogged earlier. As I’m learning more about the game it just gets more and more interesting. So I definitely want to either start my own corp and capture some systems on null-sec or join a corp that is aiming to do that or that already owns territory. I’m not sure how much money is to be made through that, but I just wanna do it anyways because it seems so, so cool. I found 2 corps that I wanna check out soon. Both say they aim to get onto the null sec map, so once I feel like I’ve had enough experience in the game I’m going to try and get into one of those corps or anything else I could find.

The possibilities in this game just seem endless. I mean, you can do so many fucking things. Like, you could have planetary bases or settlements or something and get resources from that, I think. You could own systems in null sec. You could mine, bounty hunt, pirate, infiltrate corporations, manufacture things, do missions, salvage, do contracts to earn money doing things like, for example, hauling heavy items for players, and probably other things that I either don’t know or that I just can’t think of at the moment. I love how there are regional prices so, theoretically (I say “theoretically” because I’m not sure if this is actually practiced or not), but you could theoretically buy things from one region take those things into a region where their values are higher and then make a profit. I might try that out, but I’m pretty sure the prices fluctuate based on demand because they always seem to be shifting a few ISK up and down. At least the price of the ore I’ve been selling does. So yeah, I’m going to hardcore explore these possibilities soon. Right after I come back from school today.

You’ll probably have forgotten how annoying it’s been by the time you end up coming back to this, but summer school sucks ass. It’s been interfering with my ability to play EVE for one, and it’s just boring. 5 hours for one class with a 15 minute break. If at any point you ever say, “summer school wasn’t that bad” it’s cause you forgot just how shit it is.

Anyways, moving on. I’ve had two or three sessions since the last thing I wrote, and it’s been really good. I did some basic mining for the corp and brought in about 1000 cubic meters of veldspar and got paid 1,000,000 ISK which doesn’t even make sense since there’s no way that that much veldspar could net anywhere near that much money, but I ain’t complaining. After that I started doing some agent missions to get a better feel of the game. This time the agent missions were easier because they were career agents. Some how, I missed that last time because the opportunities and my own ineptitude kind of brought me galaxies away from the rookie system which left me only with the agents that would have tougher missions. Either way, I started doing some missions and received some good rewards.

This venture is among some of the rewards. It’s a good mining ship which has a huge ore cargo bay separate from it’s regular cargo hold in addition to the drone bay. When I go mining in earnest, obviously I use this ship now. I also trained my skills and now have a bunch of great stuff. Unfortunately, I bought a bunch of skill books prematurely when I could’ve just waited until doing the agent missions so that I would get them for free. So, I just sold them but only made some of the money back. But, at least I got the skills earlier. Also I can use drones now which are fantastic when mining because the venture can’t really carry much turrets so I have no way to defend myself aside from crippling my mining efficiency by equipping just one Miner and one Blaster. But since I can use some drones now, I have much better ways to defend myself. I can use all my turret slots for Miner lazer things and put a coupe hobgoblins in my drone bay which are more than enough to kill any low level NPC pirates trying to harass me when I mine.

I started mining some more valuable ore like Plagoiclase and Pyroxeres. Neither are actually THAT valuable, but they definitely get me some acceptable profits. Mining about 5000 cubic meters of the either can get me very close to 1,000,000 ISK each time.

With corp money I got paid and the gift money I got just for joining, plus all the profits I’ve been making mining, I managed to buy myself an alright ship. It’s called an Algos and it has decent stats. I’ll post the stats later because I don’t have all the info in the top of my head but I don’t want to lose that info in the progression of time. It would suck when I get to the point where I start driving truly amazing ships and I just forget all about the beginnings.

And in this one you can’t really see the ship but this was me destroying a pirate outpost for an agent mission. I was mostly using drones to get that done.

So, as I was doing the pirate thing the socket closed on me whatever that means and I had to stop for awhile. But, it was definitely good. I’m definitely starting to consider different employment though. I’m getting to a point where I’m really considering the ways I do EVE. I think my first step for my upcoming sessions is to do as much agents missions as possible so I know more about what you can do in this game.

The main issue now is balancing time in my life. I want to play a lot of EVE, but I also want to watch Game of Thrones because I need to catch up on this newest season. I also need to make sure I devote some time to playing guitar, and then there’s hanging out with friends in real life, playing other games, and *shivers* summer school. Time management is definitely a huge ass problem right now. I hope you figure this shit out eventually. Maybe I’ll multitask GoT with EVE, but I feel like that would take away from the immersion in both the show and the game. That’s all for now, I’ll figure it out.

Dear Me,

Wow, I started the game at about 4:30 am yesterday and played consecutively until about 12 pm when I had to go to sleep. It was amazing. I really made progress. I went from exploring the “opportunities” for awhile which were more like tutorials, to trying to some agent missions, to spending hours just mining, and applying at a corp and getting accepted.

Let’s start from the top. I created a character which I felt looked similar to Alex Turner, that was kind of my goal. I chose the Gallente Empire, Gallente race, and to have Mining heritage. My goal is to mine, mine, mine and make bank. That’s what really caught my eye initially when it came to EVE. The economy, how in-depth it was. In addition to that the art is utterly beautiful. My goal is basically to become really rich, and who knows, maybe I can even start my own corp some day?

So I started out with doing the opportunities.

I wanted to get some help understanding the ropes of the game and this opportunity thing seemed like a decent way to go about it. It helped me learn how to mine, travel, use camera controls, sell things, manufacture things and also I became knowledgeable of the EVE greetings: o/ and o7. From what I understand, the first one is used to greet or say goodbye to people of similar rank, and o7 is used to greet or say bye to people of higher rank. At least in my corp, that seems to be the case. But after awhile I started to get bored of the opportunities. I wanted to start forging some sort of path and make money. 

In my quest to do this I went from attempting to run agent missions. For some reason, this was an utter failure, I was completely incapable of successfully doing them. The first agent mission I tried involved being able to carry cargo which was well beyond my ship’s capacity! So I declined. The next one I tried was technically possible, all I had to do was find some NPC pirates and kill them. But, my ship was to basic and lacked the endurance to fight them. I ended up just running back to base. Which, for awhile was the Clacille IV system.

Fuck it, I basically thought. I started mining.

I mined scordite when possible and velspar if I couldn’t find the former. This proved to be relatively profitable. But not that much. I managed to make somewhere in the neighborhood of 200-300k ISK. Which is alright. But it surprised to find out that the raw ore was a lot more valuable than the refined ore. I have no idea why, but that’s the case. Mining can get pretty monotonous, so while I’m doing it I put EVE in windowed and watch ThinkTank videos because I can’t stop staring at Hannah Cranston.

After mining for awhile, I eventually get accepted into a decent corp. It’s run by a pretty interesting dude, he’s been playing for two years. I met another member who I ended up adding on Steam and we may possibly play Civ 5 which is one of my favorite games. I’m glad to be a part of this corp because it’s mostly a mining corp and I basically will get money to do some mining. It’s basically a mining corp which is newb friendly and will possibly expand to encompass PVP.

One more thing I should mention: some nigga straight up killed me! I was just undocking from a system in a high-security area and he killed me in like five seconds.

But I got a kill right though so watch out dude, I’ma get revenge some day.

So, I’m starting this blog to chronicle my progress and my experiences in the MMO Eve Online. It’s a game I have played before but I have never really gotten into it the way that one gets into games. So, I think that tracking my progress will be useful, fun, and also keep me interested in the game. Getting an audience on this blog is completely a non issue. Everything I’m saying here is directed to future me. So hello future me reading this. I already know no one is reading this. Moving on.

The way I think is the best way to do this is to do a little write-up/summary of everything that happened following each of my play-through sessions. I’m gonna have my first real session in a second, but when I tried to do it earlier there was a thing where the server goes down for maintenance so I have to wait awhile before playing. I’m basically just doing the tutorial, so there won’t be much to write up here. I guess I’ll try and take pictures as well of stuff that happens; I’ll have to figure out the proper way to take screenshots and stuff. Alright, I’m excited now this’ll be fun.
