Her music has a sort of...ominous or mysterious feel to it and then her voice comes in so smoothly over it. It's different. You can definitely hear it in the beginning of this one. 

This was the first song I heard by SZA and I instantly fell in love with her voice! It's very different from anything on the radio right now. What do you think?

There's nothing more refreshing to me than hearing new, and unfamiliar talent and wondering, Is this the next big thing? These were my thoughts the first time I heard Solana Rowe, better known as SZA. SZA was born November 8, 1990 in St. Louis, Missouri and moved to Maplewood, New Jersey when she was 10. Her Muslim upbringing along with Wu Tang Clan member RZA influenced her stage name; the "S" is for sovereign, "Z" for zig-zag, and "A" for Allah. She briefly attended college for marine biology, but dropped out and took odd jobs to make money. Interesting enough, SZA says she never aspired to be a musician, she just wanted to make art. With that being said, SZA began recording music in May 2012 and self-released her first EP See.SZA.Run that following October. On July 14, 2014 it was announced that SZA had been signed to Top Dawg Entertainment and she performed in a four show tour with Swedish group Little Dragon. SZA continued creating music of her own in addition to collaborating with fellow label mates and released her third EP Z in April 2014. The EP debuted at number 39 on the US Billboard 200 and number 9 on the US Hip-Hop/R&B chart. SZA lists many musicians as influences on her music, and the range in genres could be a direct reflection of her unique sound. From the music passed down by her father to modern sounds shared by her sister, SZA has a very diversified music background including Billie Holiday, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Macy Gray, and Common. SZA is currently working on her first debut album A and an international tour. With a career taking off as quickly as hers, I think we can expect great things from this soulful songstress.

           As a photographer Jason tries to convey a message or a particular emotion with his work.  As of late, he has been shooting less events to make room for creative or imaginative work.  He has been especially interested in photojournalism ever since seeing the documentary, The Salt of the Earth about photographer Sebastiao Salgado.  This movie changed his perspective and really opened his eyes.  Since that realization he has tried to capture images that might matter, and this is what pushes him.  He most recently just finished a personal shot a day for the month of October. 31 shots for 31 days.  There are still events that he gets invited to do as well fun events that he attends on his own and will shoot.  He is also planning on getting into his friends’ studio at Up Against the Wall and log in some hours to get his lighting down.  Also, in February he will be flying back to visit his family.  This will be the first time in 7 years that he will have seen show. So, once again he will be in a semi new environment and will continue to shoot. Jason says he is really looking forward to spending 4 or 5 days in Old Quebec City or Montreal to do some shooting because both of these cities are incredibly beautiful.  “Photography can make a difference and it can change lives”. This is my favorite song by NAO right now.  I really love her voice.  Not only is it a good song, the music video is very creative and goes a direction that I would have never guessed. Shout out to director Ian Pons Jewell for this dope piece of art. 

This East London Native is taking the world by storm.  You may recognize her vocals on the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Love Every Letter Commercial. NAO, the R&B, neo-soul songstress began her creative journey very young, starting with playing the piano. Once she got into her teenage years she attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, she began to take singing more seriously, and I am so happy she did.  After graduating from Guildhall School of Music and Drama, NAO gave singing lessons in South London.  She also began doing background vocals.  After realizing that, that was not fulfilling enough for her, NAO decided to start doing work of her own.  In 2014 she established her own record label, Little Tokyo.  That year she also released her first EP entitled “So Good”.  This project reached number 4 on the iTunes electronic chart.  Her second EP, “February 15” (II MMXV) was released this past May.  Following the release of this project she has had many ups in her career.  She played at the Glastonbury Festival in June, and in September she was nominated for the best newcomer award at the MOBO Awards.  She a featured vocalist and writer on Disclosure’s #1 Album, Caracal. She was also featured on the list for the BBC Sound of 2016 prize.  So what is next for NAO after all of these accomplishments?  She will be wrapping up her first 6 show, UK tour this weekend and is all set to go on tour again in April 2016.
