So I’ll go to an ER in the “American Healthcare System” and I’ll talk to the doctor and I’ll go, “Can I get treated for my illness, please?”

And they go, “NO! YOU DON’T HAVE AN ILLNESS!”

And I go, “Okaaay!”

And then I go home. And then I get sick again and I go, “Any updates?”

And they go “Yeah, you actually do have an illness that can only be diagnosed through surgery but we didn’t tell you because we hate you. Now take this prescription for a medication that your insurance won’t cover, go fetch!”

And I go, “Okaaay!” and I go over to the pharmacy and go, “Can I have my medication please?” and they go “NO!”

And I go, “Okaaay!”

And they go, “You’re a little fat girl, aren’t you?”

And I go, “Nooo,” and they go, “SAY IT!” and I go, “I’m a little fat girl.“

And then I call my insurance’s customer service line, which is an oxymoron, and I go, “Can you please cover the medication I need for my chronic illness?” and they go “No! In fact, we’re gonna charge you twice the out of pocket rate as any other company does for the same prescription!”

And I go, “Why are you doing this to me?!”

And they go,

If you wanna wear a flower crown on your bald head do it

If you wanna wear short skirts when you have cellulite or braces do it

If you wanna wear tank tops or short sleeves while having scars do it

If you wanna paint your wheelchair hot pink do it

If you wanna wear heels with your cane do it

If you wanna go topless with surgery scars do it

If you wanna show off your body, with or without hair on it do it.

If you wanna dye your hair a hundred different colors do it

If you carry your meds on you and take them in public do it

Its your body. Dont let anyone or anything take that away from you. Be unashamed. Love yourself.

If you want to wear a bikini with surgery scars or one/both breasts missing do it

If you want to wear something revealing while pregnant do it

If you want to dress outside the gender binary society says you should be in do it

If you want to wear eye makeup while blind do it

If you want to wear a poofy ball gown in your wheelchair do it (just be careful not to let it get caught! Stay safe!)

I have a friend I know from when we were both 6. She is the only person living nearby and so she saw me go from walking through limping to wheelchair on a daily basis. I keep her updated on my health even tho we rarely hang out anymore. She was gonna come over yesterday and I had to cancel. She asked if I can’t hang out later that day. When I said i won’t feel better later, that if I feel that bad in the morning later will only get worse she got annoyed and “joked” that I’m just finding excuses. And I was surprised, she knows all about me being disabled after all? So, a bit taken aback, I told her it’s a normal thing for me.

“But you got the diagnosis now, aren’t you better?? I thought you’ll get better now”
