“I just went through a life crisis, of course I’m sensitive” Jamie stated, sticking his tongue out and acting like a child but honestly, he felt like he was in a good place so he was able to joke and just be a little more childish than usual. “Graduating, yes, that’s my focus, one day I’ll finally be over with school” And he would think of what to do after that when the time comes. “Yeah, don’t doubt about that, like, I’m getting better at just talking about what’s on my mind” He thought he was better, hopefully those around him saw it too. “Since when do you care about Greta Thunberg? And she’s going to be the next Peace Nobel Prize, what makes you think you’ll get to see her?” He would never understand how Chris and Sam’s brains worked, honestly. “I wouldn’t want to go with you two on a trip, you guys are weird” He made fun of his brother “Like a siblings’ weekend getaway?”

Chris poked at his brother’s side in a half attempt to tickle him, speaking of sensitive. “One day. Unfortunately, that day is not today.” It would be a dick move to bring up the fact that Chris would be finished with school probably before Jamie would be at this point. But in all fairness, Jamie had a lot more he had to cover, and rightfully so. “You are, you are. I’m just saying. You don’t have to face anything alone. I’ll gladly be brought down to your level.” Chris ran his fingers through his hair with a smirk. “Uh? Since I live with this guy, whooo I’m pretty sure you’ve met, and he’s trying to help save what’s left of this planet, one small thing at a time. We may not be able to actually see her but we’ll try. And it’s still New York, so it’ll be cool either way. Plus, first train experience.” Jamie could judge them all he wanted. At least he and Sam would get to have a little adventure. “Thank you. I’ll take that as a compliment. And yeah. We could get Danny to tag along. We can all plan something. Road trip. Maybe go to San Francisco or something, I don’t know. Anywhere you wanna go?”

😈 Jump out of the shadows to scare/startle my muse

It was a little odd that Sam wasn’t back yet but Chris wasn’t too concerned about it. After all, his roommate did say he’d probably be home late. One bad habit of Chris’ was walking around the apartment with the lights off, simply using the light on his phone to navigate, grabbing a glass of water before he’d end up retreating back to his room. Except when he heard a key in the door, he quickly set the glass down on the counter and crept over closer to the door. As soon as Sam was inside and shut the door behind him, turning back around to face the room, Chris grabbed him by his shoulders: “Where have you been!” The second he grabbed him, he could feel Sam jump before shrugging him off and hitting the light switch all while Chris laughed. “What were you up to, being out so late, hmmm?” he teased.

“Shut up, I’m not old, I am at a perfect age, shut up” Maybe Jamie did freak out a little by his birthday and maybe Chris wasn’t helping by calling him old. Honestly, Jamie freaked out by the weirdest of reasons. “I’m good, really, although I know that no matter how many times I say it you won’t believe me” And he loved his brother for that, honestly, but he wasn’t sure how else to assure everyone that he was okay.  “You’re going to New York? Why? Are you guys sure? Like… maybe you two need adult supervision” He joked.

“Somebody’s sensitive about their age.” Chris poked Jamie’s nose. “Seriously, you’re only 24. Why are you freaking out? The world isn’t ending. Yet. Just another year closer to graduating, lucky you.” He nodded. “You would be correct. But if anything does bother you and you don’t want to talk to me or Danny, you’ll hopefully talk to Joon. So, that’s reassuring. I guess.” Chris would probably be a little bitter if that was the case but as long as Jamie talked to someone if he wasn’t feeling his best, that was better than no one. “The plan is to essentially sneak into wherever Greta Thunberg is giving a speech. But we’re not sure how close we’ll even be able to get. Yes, we are sure. And no, we do not need adult supervision. Unless that’s your way of trying to say you want to come along. Which is still a no.” Chris smirked. “We can plan something some time, though.”

“Stop being disgusted by my love you’re breaking my heart” Sam joked since he was great at being sentimental whenever he wanted to be. “Oh God stop, now you’re mentioning Hannah and I love her psycho self, like, if I’m supposed to be offended I’m not” He figured he should let him know because he was kind of obsessed with Dark now. “Don’t tell Lara, oh my God, she’s going to freak out and ruin the trip for us, or call her when we are already on our way so she can’t stop us” He loved Lara but she would probably start asking if he can really skip work or if he should be really doing these things and well, he wouldn’t like the answers. “Or just a brand new trip in a better time, I’m open to that too”

Chris simply held his hands up in front of him, using his fingers to make an X. “Your choice in fictional characters concerns me sometimes, man. I don’t like or trust anyone in that show.” Okay, there were a couple he was okay with but still. “I don’t think Lara would freak out, come on. We’re planning and we know what we’re doing, for the most part. It’d be kind of a dick move to say nothing.” Chris was planning on telling Jamie just to let him know. And Lara was always nice to him, so yeah, even though Sam was his best friend, he wanted to look out for his sister too. Could he afford to skip work and classes? No. But he wanted to have some fun. “We’ll figure it out.”

“Why would you judge me? I’m being a highly functional human being right now, you should be proud of me little brother” Jamie complained with a smile. “I feel better, this is what I want, like, I know that now, I still have doubts of what I’ll do when this stage of my education ends but at least I’m in the right direction” Jamie stated, feeling like the time off had definitely been the right call. “What about you? How’s work going?”

“Because you’re getting old?” Chris couldn’t even say that with a straight face, smirk on his lips the entire time. Obviously, they were both far from old and age was just a number or whatever. He just wanted to give him some crap when and where he could. “I’m always proud of you. That goes without saying. And you can turn down the functioning for a bit. I don’t want you to spontaneously combust because your brain is in overdrive.” Chris nodded in agreement. “At least you’re in the right direction. I’m sure things will fall into place as you get there. Try different specialties, see what sticks.” He rubbed the back of his neck before trying to get it to crack. “Work’s alright. Actually gonna take a few days off soon because Sam and I are going to New York.”

“Going back to the hospital wasn’t the most horrible thing in the world” Jamie had to agree because the world hadn’t ended. He hadn’t forgotten about being a doctor and things weren’t as difficult as he thought they would be. Yeah, going back to his life was great after a break, especially because now he was too aware that he couldn’t let med school take over his life, he liked hanging out with Joon and his friend too much to go back at being a zombie. “I’m tired though, got too used to sleep as much as I wanted”

“No shit, Sherlock.” Chris ruffled his brother’s hair with a smile. He knew Jamie was making a bigger deal out of it than it really was. Probably. “That’s why coffee exists. And you can take a nap, you know. I’ll only judge you a little because I’ve crashed plenty of times myself.” Whether it was mental or physical exhaustion, Chris had been there. “How is everything? You feel better about your decision, or are you still feeling uncertain?” Maybe uncertain wasn’t the right word but he knew Jamie was struggling about whether or not to take a break. Now that he was back, hopefully he felt better overall.

“See why you’re my best friend in the entire world? You’re even saying carbon footprint, man, I love you” He got cheesy in that moment but damn, Chris was definitely the best because he could easily dismiss everything Sam said but no, he was here, supporting him and even encouraging him to be whoever he wanted to be. “I think it’s in the middle of September, do you think you can skip work for a few days? If you can’t, then I’m sure we can plan something else, I mean, let’s be realistic, I won’t get to actually meet her or anything” So yeah, maybe this trip could be changed for something else like Chris had suggested earlier.

“Yeah, I know,” Chris spoke all nonchalantly before scrunching his nose. “Okay, see, gross. Now you’re getting too sentimental. All I said was carbon footprint. Calm down over there, Hannah Kahnwald.” He couldn’t help smirking, rolling his shoulder to make it pop. Trying to get out of work and classes for a few days made him nervous. But unlike his brother, he knew when to have a little fun too. Plus, he knew it would mean a lot to Sam. “It’s fine. I’ll let them know I’m thinking about it tomorrow, as a heads up. And I’ll email teachers. Then, I’ll call your work and your sister and tell them that you’ve been kidnapped. All problems: solved.” Except maybe the cost of getting to New York because Chris had no idea how expensive it would be after everything was said and done. But it’d be worth it. “Once we get back, we can plan a different road trip.”

Sam was getting excited and at the same time, he was very grateful by the fact that his best friend was supporting his crazy ideas even if he was just rambling and not giving much information. “I think a train would be better, it could be more like an adventure, we could stop in a few places, driving could be too tiring and expensive and unless you’ve won the lottery lately then I think we should go for the cheapest option” Sam remarked, smiling. “We can do everything together, my friends, the sky is the limit for uuuuuus”

“The cheapest option is almost always the best option. I’ve looked up Amtrak before out of curiosity. It’s still kind of expensive and it’ll take longer, but I’m sure it’s cheaper than driving in the long run. And less of a carbon footprint.” Okay, he wasn’t 100% certain on that last point but if Sam was leaning that way, it probably was. “When are we going? Do you know dates?” Chris was a bit worried about work, and school, depending on how soon this was happening. Though, he was sure he could get like a week off and it’d be fine.

“I want to attend one of her events, like, listen to her live you know? I don’t care about anyone else so maybe we can skip that part as long as we get to one of her events” He should really start googling and see how factible everything is, because maybe even if they went to NY chances were they wouldn’t get to see her at all. “Nah, you’re the dork I’m talking about, no one’s stealing your place as the dorkest of all” He assured him. “Yes, flying would be cheaper to us, but the carbon footprint would be terrible. I guess it makes you question what’s more important to you, to save money or to save the world” He raised an eyebrow at him because the choice was obvious to him “We could take trains”  He sighed, frustrated. “But roadtrips don’t involve meeting my idol!”

“We can do that. Let’s make it happen.” Chris could tell this was important to Sam and something he really wanted to do, so the least Chris could do was offer to help him find a way. Plus, New York and roadtripping sounded amazing anyway. Even if it meant driving across the country. Apparently. “...good. I’ll keep my title that’s at least half accurate. I guess I could see about borrowing my dad’s car? Or taking a train. I don’t know. A train would be better, right?” It might be cheaper too, considering they would at the very least have to stop and get gas if driving, maybe a hotel too because driving that far wasn’t happening in one day. “Okay, okay. But we can do another roadtrip later. That’s all I’m saying.”
