thinking about how investigating similar claims re: Michael Sheen led to the singular, years-old damning statement of "I want both peoples to be safe, and a free Palestine. I don't want people to die. and I don't feel comfortable talking about this or having people make assumptions about me" afaik you factually can't have a two-state solution and a free Palestine at the same time, so this is a self-contradictory statement, but he's kinda there. Not especially good, not evil. Way better than most celebs. Better a confused and messy "Free Palestine" from someone who clearly doesn't get the whole picture, than the silence and/or Zionism you see from most people in his position. Imho.

thinking about how when Neil was revealed to be a monster, they dropped him like the shit he is and never looked back. Thinking about how they didn't just try to sweep it under the rug. Thinking about how that seemed like the bare minimum then, but as Every Single Powerful Person seems to be turning out guilty of far worse now, with no repercussions, Neil's full removal and shunning stands out as a rare spot of humanity.

Thinking about them choosing to preserve the show because of the fans.

Thinking about them giving the Pratchett estate at least a large amount of control over it.

Thinking about them choosing to work on a tight budget rather than leave the fans on a sad ending.

Thinking about how for everything else wrong in this fandom, the ONLY fan artist I've seen both making vocally antifascist fanart and being active irl themselves is from the Good Omens fandom.

is Good Omens.... Safe? Even maybe a something close to, near to, almost a little bit Good? no bloody hands, no secret violence, Can I hope for that much? A story made with good intentions by principled, aware and socially active people, who are truly doing this out of respect for their audience? I just keep waiting for it to crumble, spiraling over Michael's views on Palestine, am I overreacting or underreacting to them I don't even know. It feels like there is nothing truly pure enough to find joy in, or maybe there's just something rotten in me that makes the Good Stories not appealing.
